March 31st, 1909. Report of County Board of Audit. To the honorable board of county commissioners, Marshall County, Minnesota. Gentlemen: We, the undersigned, board of audit, of said Marshall County, convened a the office of the county treasurer of said county, on the Eleventh day of March, A. D.

Be It Resolved, By the county board of Marshall County, Minnesota, that the folowing fees be adopted and to be paid to the county physician, for work done and to be done, in his official capacity: For attending meetings of the Co. board of health, if held in the office of the countv health officer, on day and hour named by him, no charge. If held at other time or place, ten dollars per day and 25 cents per mile traveled. For making first quarterly report.

This report to i give the sanitary condition of all establishments named in the resolutions of the State Board of Health, the condition of source of water and ice supply, report of epidemic and endemic diseases, and such other matters as may be of interest to, or be requested by the State Board of Health. For each subsequent quarterly report, $5.00. For first inspection of a slaughterhouse, $10.00. For each subsequent inspection, 00.

For first inspection of a rendering, other establishment or premises $5.60. For each, subsequent inspection for" $2.00. For first case visited of suspected contagious or infectious disease, $5.00. For each additional case visited on same day, $2.00. For each mile traveled in discharge of duties (unless otherwise provided), 25 cents.

For attendance at meetings of the State Sanitary Conference, the county health officer shall be allowed $5.00 per day and six cents per mile. Carried, March 31st, 1909. C. Wittensten, Vice Chairman Wheras, there is no room in the present Court House for offices for the County Attorney and Judge of Probate and Whereas, it is neccessary that offices be secured for the said County Attorney and Judge of Pro bate in the Court House, therefore, Be it Resolved, by the County Board of Marshall County, Minnesota, that the building committee of said Board be authorized to employ an architect to prepare plans and specifications for rooms for said officers. Carried, March 31st, 1909.

Richard Roppe bought a driving horse from J. O. Shoquist.of Strathcona, eek before last. Andrew Underdahl returned home Wednesday before last from Waukirt, Iowa, where he has been for some time visiting with relatives. Richard Roppe and Sarah Thorson made a flying trip to Middle River last Friday.

Hoff Bros, have decided to get into the manufacturing business. Their specialty will be automobiles and baby carriages. Richard Roppe and Sarah Thorson visited friends at Strathcona last Sunday. S. O.

Hoff spent a few days at Strathcona on business. Mrs. B. T. Roppe and son Ole yisited friends ao Newfolden last Wednesday- VEGA.

April 6, fine baby girl was born to Mr. and Mi-Si Carl Bergen, last Wednesdayi Both mother and daughter are doing well. Miss Clara Christenson, of Alvarado, was seen out for a ride last Sunday afternoon. Misses Lydia Lindberg, Clara Christenson, Ragna Bergan and K. Nelson, returned home last Saturday morning from a visit at Thief River Falls.

Martin Fering was seen hauling hay last Sunday. He must be pretty busy now-a-days. Miss Lydia Lindberg made a pleasant call at Mr. Bergan's place last Wednesday. Bill Bergan and his brother Elling arrived last Monday evening from a visit at Bisbee, N.

Dak. George Berg and his brother Johnny, was seen on the road from Warren last week with a disc drill. Mrs. Nels Markuson made a pleasant call at Mr. Bergan's place Sunday afternoon.

Bill Bergan made a call at his sister's place, Mrs. F. J. Christenson, last week. A grand ball will be given at the Alvarado hall Saturday the 10th.

The Englund Debating Society held last meeting of the season, Satur- day zoning. The meeting was a very p.easant one and at its close we felt rather sorry that W3 will not have another one until next winter, but thj-e no help for it as the busy season is coming on us a most of the young people are leaving for their summer work. Mary Stromlund left last week for Lancaster, where she Avill be working this summer. Thos. Cieklinski and Peter Lubarski were out this way Saturday evening doing a business deal with Erlck Nelson.

They took in the debate also before they left. St. Banaszewski has made arrangements with the Strandquist creamery to haul cream for the farmers living the road between Englund and Strandquist. Otto Carlson has rented his farm to IVlike Waszak. Guess Otto is going to take it easy this summer.

and Mrs. Stromlund visited friends near Bronson, the first part of the week. G. N. Nelson returned from Canada, Monday.

He has taken up a section of land and will move out there in about two weeks. Henry Lofquist has hired out to work for Geo. Benson, this summer. The spring will be given a welcome dance at the Englund Hall, Saturday evening, April 17th. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Peterson returned home Tuesday morning after a few days visit with relatives at Thief River Palls.

Emil Ostlund had the misfortune of getting his right arm quite badly cut by the lath saw Tuesday afternoon. John J. Lokken has been appointed carrier for Rural Free Delivery Route No. 1 Service was commenced on April 1st and hereafter the patrons of this route will receive mail This route will be a great benefit to the community in which it passes through, and much credit is due ouralso Postmaster, Mr. Strombo, and others who have assisted in getting it start-j ed.

STEPHEN. From the Leader. Died, March 31. 1909, at his home in Stephen, Gustaf Johnson, aged 63 years6 months and 2 days. Gustaf Johnson was born at Kalmer, Sweden, Sept.

29.1845. In Decemberl873 he was united in mariage to Emma Danielson at Stockholm, Sweden, and the first ten years of their married life was spent in Sweden. In 1883 Mr. and Mrs. Johnson came to the United States and the greater portion of the time since they have been residents of Stephen.

By profession Mr. Johnson was a Carpenter and there are but few buildings in Stephen that were not in part or in whole built by him andacres. among these is the Methodist church of which he was a member. Mr. Johnson's taking! away was very sudden.

In good health and strength, while reading just before noon of Wednesday he had a sudden stroke ot apoplexy which caused a hemorrhage of the brain. Everything that skill could do was done for him but to no avail and about 6 o'clock he passed to the home prepared for himAmerican with God's chosen ones. He leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife and and two children, Oscar foreman ofthe Leader and Mrs. Gust Gorder, ofGrafton, to whom in this hour of grief and sorrow the sympathy of the entire community goes out. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon.

Joe King and Jack Steinmetz returned from the Canadian Northwest Saturday where they had been looking over some land matters. Jack says things are on the bum there and that a person woald be foolish to leave this countrv under any conditions for that land of desolation and bleakness. Henry Durand and Fred Bakke have purchased the O. Hanson Son stock and under the firm name of Durand Bakke will place this stock on sale in the Bakke building, April 3rd. It is with regret that the people here see the old reliable firm of Hanson Son go out of business but is a pleasure to know that two of our Stephen boys will succeed them, for both are well known for high integrity of character and as thorough business men and can be depended on to make good.
