Cotton Seed Oil Mill. A number of our prominent citizens met on yesterday and organized a Cotton Town Convention. In obedience to the call of Mayor Tar-borough a. large number of citizens of Louisburg assembled in the Court House on Friday night last for the pur-pose of nominating a candidate for Mayor and four Commissioners, to be voted for at the approaching May election. i Mayor Yarborough called the meeting to order and requested Geo.

Williams was on motion elected temporary Secretary. Upon motion the temporary organization was made permanent, and the Chairman announced that nominations for Mayor were in order, whereupon Dr. O. Ellis placed the name of W. H.

"Fisherman's Luck," by amateurs from Raleigh, will be rendered on Tuesday. 1st of May, at Opera House; in Louisburg, for the benefit of the Episcopal church. I r' Ihivj Superior Court i The entire week has been passed in the trial of the civil cases on the calendar and good progress has been made in the disposal of cases. At this writing (Thursday morning) the case of Hughes Roberts vs.

Branch bankers, of Wilson, N. is being argned before the ary. This case has excited considerable interest by reason of the large sum of money involved, and the verdict of the jary is awaited with interest. Later. The jury verdict was in favor pr the defendant.

Whetherthe renomination given me was intended as a testimonial of approval by the community of the manner in which I -bave discharged the duties of the Mayoralty during the past three years, or whether, as I am inclined to believe, it was dae rather to the partiality and kindness of my friends. I am equally grateful. would be affectation to say that I did not desire a renomination or that I was' in, different to the action of the convention.

I value beyond estimation the friendship and confidence of my fellow-citizens and every fresh token thereof is a new inspiration to I trust that during my next term. The election will take place next Tues day. Grand ary Report The Grand Jury of Franklin Superior Court, April term, 1900, make the following report to Hon. E. W. Timberlake, Judge presiding: Having carefully ex amined the jail of the county beg leave to report it conditions as follows: jWe find the prisoners satisfactorily provided for and the sanitary conditions not very good.

We recommend that two more cells be added in order to, make necessary room for the prisoners; Also the removal of the four cells that are next to the wall in order that the prisoner? may haze plenty of ventilation, We rec'ommend that the top of Court House be (repaired and the plastering over head be taken off, as it is now pot safe. We recommend ceiling instead of plastering; We have also examined the County Home for the Aged and Infirm by a com mittee of four and beg to submit the following report: Two windows, three lights, twelve chairs; are needed. The sanitary-condition and health of inmates com paratively good. The premises are in good shape, necessary repairing of build ings now being effected. i Ben, G.
