EaSTOV. Pa Oct. 28. Carlisle Indians proved too much for l.afavette this afternoon, rolling up nineteen points without permitting the Maroon and White team to score. The Indians' goal was never threat ened.

Lafayette toward the close carried the ball to the yard line, where they had it when time was called l.afavette did very good work in the beginning, but it was sarly evident that the Indiana were the atrongest. They were heavier, fleeter and more accurate In their plays, and their interference was fine still early in the game It looked as though the conteat would be close, for l.afavette frequestly threw the backs for losses, but the beef of the vieltors began to tell, and after Thorpe had scored the first touchdown l.afavette began to lose hope. Capt. Datinehower won the toaa for Lafayette and the Indians kicked off. a gain of twenty yard -by Marshall and fifteen by Spiegle cheered the Maroon and White rooters, but after that the Indians held and got the ball on a punt on their 30 yard line Being unable to gain the ball went to Lafayette when a forward pass.

Kelly to llannehower, gained fifteen yards. Hnth gamed eight yards, but on the next play the Indians got the ball on a fumble Thorpe made ten yards and another gain put the ball on lfayette's ss yard line Here Iifayeite held and got the ball 1 he Indians then worked it down to lAfeyette' vard line, when the first jieriod ended without either side scoring The Indiana seemed to get stronger as the plav progressed and in the aecond period the ball was in l.afavette territory most of the time In the second tieriod the Indians carried the bull close to goal and lost It on downs Lafayette waa forced to kick and again the Indiana worked the sphere within striking distance I.afsvette was stubtKirn, however, and it wa only after gains of a few yards at a time that the visitors finally got the ball on the I yard line Then Thorpe carried It over for a touchdown No goal was kieked Wheelock made the second touchdown No goal was kicked and the first half ended Carlisle. 10. l.afavette. n.

Vermont Tram Defeated, but Visiters Furnish a Surprise. Hsnovkr, Oct. at. -Dartmouth met a tartar in the guise of Ihs University of Vermont footbsll team and came out a victor by the score of only 12 points to 0. Either the big Cireen team wa overconfident or th Burlington eleven uncorked their resl calibre for th first time, for there were times In the ggrne when the Dartmouth stands were rather fidget tv, and four tlmea the Vermontera held their opponents for downs, once on the 8 ysrd line.

The gsme was the faatest and hardeat seen in Hanover thia aeaaon. Dartmouth acored In the eoond and third periods The first touchdown wa the result of a twelve ysrd end run by Dana and a forward pass for eight yards from Wright to Bnow, Dana carrying the hall over for ths tally. a more i-oherent, a much better playing team than that which ws beaten by Penn Stat by one touchdown two week ago. Cornell scored a touchdown and Kyrich made a drop kirk. Had Butler been la th Knine hie accurate booting would undoubtedly have doubled Cornell'a cor becauae there were plenty of opporttinitiea for Held goala which F.yrlrh couldn't negotiate and tie missed a goal from placement after fair catch. Another thing that tended to keep down th core was penaltiea which put Cornell back tOu yard, twoof them due Juat when the Ithacan had made big gaina. Conaiderlng the two thing the ecore wasn't all bad and there waa the additional factor of weight which wa entirely In i'tttahurg' favor by about fifteen pounda average Kyrich.

Cornell' left end. and O'Connor, left halfback, were the crippled tar of the tame, though I nderhill' defensive work, Munk'a game smearing of play agalnat hla aide of the line, Frit' aenaa-tional tackling and the anappy charging of the line agalnet a much heavier aggrega-t on were other good feature. I he end tackle ahowed better in cover ng punt and their tackling lowr an I sharper O'Connor's run-ling back of kick waa splendid and hla generalahlp In running the team when Smith waa taken oi from quarter was equally high elaa. Kyrich not only recovered a number of nt sad onaide kick, but hi apeed was dst allng and hla tackling uaually deadly. I i '1 his was the prettiest football seen at Cambridge since the forward pass was' incorporated in the game But it waa all I that Brown offered to-day. and save for the long advance down the field made posaible 1 by thla spectacular extioeitioii of open play, Brown never woe aangeroiia, indeed holding the ball In Harvard a territory 'only once thereafter, and immediatelv I being obliged to retreat to its ground be-I cause of a penalty lor holding Brown's joy over this beautiful effort was short lived, for the game went along, only a few minutes before Harvard again i took the advantage. kick to its own to yard line and Potter's run in of a kick set I Brown on it 40 yard mark and from here I Potter's forward paas over the middle of the rush line was caught by Smith This time Harvard could not force Brown's defence, I but Milhollaud was culled into the pluv on 1 the IB yard line, and standing ten ards back, kicked drop kirk goal, the ball spinning over the top of the right band post of th goal Thu when the first half ended Harvard waa leading to and waa playing the i football that seemed sure to win provided chance did not place Brown in a position to begin its open game again In the aecond half Harvard stored twice, but neither of the touchdown came on atralght football, rather on aa spettauclar plays as one may ae in football, and plays which stamped the afternoon'! gam as one of the most cu tting contest of the tear Early in the third period Harvard, aided by another forward pass from Potter to sttBltn, aii'3 tne power 01 wenoeii.

ploughed up the Hold for a first down ou Brown's If yard line But here the ball was again loat on down, notwithstanding that the lost play was a Hucieful forw-rd pass made by Potter to the doughtv Campbell Brown kicked, and Mitchell, the Providence centre, recovered the ball on Harvard's 40 yard line after It had been booted by Potter, who tried to acoop It up while on the dead run. Brown advanced to the middle ol the field and then wua aet back for holding, and then came the first of llarvard'a most brilliant plays of the afternoon Spracklitig. taking the ball himself, darted behind a aplendidly formed Interference around Harvard's right end but could not pick hla way through. Five Harvard men. among them Gardiner and Hitchcock, pounced upon Spracklitig together, and fatrlv shook the ball out of Ins arms Campbell wa oa the spot to seize it and was off like a flash for the Brown goal line There ws no Providence player near him.

for all had been ahead of Hprackllng Campbell picked up th ball on Brown' 3B yard line and waa overtaken only when he had reached the goal line and waa turning In toward the pocte. In the fourth period Harvard scored again, and as the result of a dazzling run hack of a kick by Potter, who, taking the ball out of Reynolds hands on Harvard's own 40 yard line, tore down the field, until he was tackled by (Harnett and thrown outside th playing field on Brown's there yard line. Potter' run of slaty -eight yard and the aiibseuuent plunges that carried Wendeh across the line for Harvard's third touchdown was all that there waa to the Seriod for only once after the touch-own did Harvard have the hall across from the middle of the field, and Brown, although it made a successful forward pas from Harvard' 4 yard line, was set hack for holding on the same play, thus losing the only chance to advance th ball from a scrimmage on Harvard soil Harvard played better football to-day than at any time thl year, the Crimson gam being stamped all over with ag- 6reelvanea and the sort of tackling that ikea the starch nut of the other fellow. At the end of the gsme Harvard wa using almost an entire substitute team. The line up; forfird.

In the scrimmage Harlow rammed through and blocked kick The ball bounced back of Penn a goal line and Barr fell on it for a safety. Thus ended the first quarter. Penn braced In the aecond quarter and kept the fighting in state domain. Penn blocked a kick on State's 10 yard line, hut a pass wa intercepted by very State took ths ball on down. Penn' forward passing waa inaccurate all through Near the close of the half Keough made a fair catch on State' IS vard line, but Crawford fell abort on the place kick for goal In a subsequent scrimmage State was penalized for holding, so that a punt save the ball to Penn well within Slate side of the field.
