The Placing of Flowers and Wreaths are as follows: Civil War, Baldwin Park; Spanish American, San Dimas; World War West Covina; World War IL West Covina; Korean Conflict, Glen Oaks; The Cold War, Glendora; The Vietnam Conflict, Azusa; Memorial to Peace Time, Charter Cove; Poppy wreath by all units and auxiliaries. Gold Star Mothers wreath will be LaPuente. Distribution of programs will be by Glendora Boy Scout Troop No. 481, Baldwin Park Boy Scout Troop No 667, and West Covina Cub Scout Pack No. 434.

The Pledge of Allegiance will be lead by Miss Maureen Cleary, student at St. Dorothy's School in Glendora, followed by the Star Spangled Banner by Karl Beilstein, 18th District Chaplain, member of American Legion Post 280. Placing of flags and banners will be under the direction of the Assistant Grand Marshals, OrviUe L. Hayes, Chaplain of American Legion Post 180, Azusa and Harry Kurz, Sixth District Trustee of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8070, Azusa. The definiton of the Pledge of Allegiance will be given by C.E.

Garis, Adjutant, American Legion, 18th District. Mayor Leonard S. Gleckman of West Covina will give the Address of Welcome and Announcements. The Baldwin Park American Legion Auxiliary Choralettes under the direction of Mrs. Lila Alton Vergote will present the musical selections.

The Slow March to the Memorial Monument by Post Commander Bob Fitzgerald, Post adjutant Stan Hassall and Post Sergeant at- Arms Bert Thorburn, members of Canadian Legion Post No. 167, West Covina, accompanied by members of the General Dynamics Pipe Band. Taps will be played by Les Kendall, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3197, Baldwin Park, Echo will be played by Allen Henry a student at Baldwin Park High school. Grand Marshal for the 102nd obse rvance of Memorial Day will be Louis N. Van lersal, member of Congressional Medal of Honor Association.

He received the Medal of Honor on November 9, 1918, for saving undetermined amount of lives in the line of duty. Mr. Van lersal has been extremely active in veteran's organizations and civic affairs for a number of years. Presiding officer will be Joe Chile 111, Past Commander of American Legion Post No. 790, West Covina.

Frances D. Mc Williams, American Legion Post No. 153, Glendora is in charge of the graves registration. March by Veterans of all Wars, their Auxiliaries. Patriotic Organizations and Youth Groups under the direction of die Assistant Grand Marshals, Commander Edward S.

Vega and Commander Michael G. Cas-taneda, both of Azusa. Reverend Merle P. Smith, First United Methodist Church of Baldwin Park will deliver the invocation. Jack Poertner, Past Chaplain and Sixth District Jr.

Vice Commander will give the benediction. A rifle salute for the war dead will be fired by the members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8620 of West Covina under the direction of Don Stockman. Services, sponsored bu twenty-four veterans organizations and their auxiliaries throughout the East San Gabriel Valley will be held Friday, May 30, at Oakdale Memorial Park, 1401 South Grand Glendora.

The program will start with a parade at 10 a.m. There was a time when ''Decoration Day" honored only those who had fallen in the wars between the states. But NOW Memorial Day is no longer a sectional, not even a national observance it is more than that. In nearly all the nations of the world, and the Isles of the Seven Seas, crosses mark the silent resting place of America's heroic dead. Participating in the program will be members of all armed services, veterans organizations, service clubs youth organizations, students from local schools and the General Dynamics Pipe Band.

Speaker for the day will be Mr. John Garis, American Legion Membership Chairman of the Department of California from 1968-70. He is a veteran of the United States Navy; Past Commander 18th District A-merican Legion and Past Post Commander of West Covina Post 709. Also is a member of the Past Commander's Club Outpost 18, of 40 8 Baldy Voiture 140 and is currently President of the Board of Directors of the American Legion Post 790, West Covina. Lincoln's Gettsburg Address will be given by Bob Dtenberry, member of American Legion Post 475 of San Dimas.

Veterans Administration statistics reveal that there are 30,000 veterans under 20 years of age. The Veterans Administration's 166 hospitals have a daily average of 93,636 patients. The Veterans Administration, established as an independent agency in 1930, now is the third largest Federal agency. The original force of Indian fighters numbered 106,000.

Today there are only two surviving veterans of those wars. The Veterans Administration administers laws authorizing benefits for veterans, their dependents and beneficiaries. The average age of the 5,840,000 veterans who served in the Korean Conflict is 39.5 years, according to the Veterans Administration. There are 284 living holders of the Medal of Honor, the nation's high-eat award for bravery, the Veterans Administration reveals.
