sadness Tuesday night when they accepted the resignation of Nell Bowling chairwoman of the Planning and Zoning Commission calling her a "colorful" part of city politics "It is with regret that I move we accept the resignation of Nell Bowling" said Councilwoman Pat Seifert "She has done a wonderful job in planning and zoning and has always provided excellent leadership" Bowling is leaving to be with family in Philadelphia She called the move a "friendly sad departure" She has been a vocal part of development in the city since her appointment to the commission four years ago She was deeply involved in the Old Town concept debate earlier this year When the business community and city planners clashed over the plans to rezone a three-block square of Main Street Bowling was instrumental change and a high-stakes battle with Dallas Fort Worth Airport during his first year in City Hall won high marks this week during an evaluation by his employers City Council members praised Watson 35 as a popular community leader who combines diplomacy with powerful personal connections in helping the city achieve its objectives The only criticism council members had of their $74000-a-year manager is that he sometimes has difficulty expressing himself and providing the council with clear guidance on issues Although he will continue to work without a contract Watson received a symbolic vote of confidence Tuesday night following his first annual closed-door review by the council Watson had said in an earlier interview that he was happy with his first year and that he felt comfortable with Trinity High School parents packed the Hurst-Euless-Bedford board room Tuesday night to request that the school be used for a Project Graduation party But after listening to a presentation on the school officials told parents arranging Project Graduation for Trinity and La Bell High School that they wanted the parties held off-campus LD Bell's plan to have its party at Nine Acres a dance hall river authority to advertise for bids to construct a sanitary sewer interceptor which eventually will connect with the Big Bear Creek main sewage interceptor Under the agreement the city also will contract with the consulting engineers for final design and construction of the project instead of the river authority "This will save two months of construction time" Barnes told the council The river authority's board of directors meets every other month which would slow the contracting process he said Under the agreement the city will pay the monthly construction cost estimates for the project and then be reimbursed by the river authority results of a national effort to provide a fun alcohol-free environment for seniors to celebrate their big day the board promised to give the parents a reply by tomorrow afternoon The parents had scheduled the party fashioned after a casino-night theme to follow the June I graduation ceremony at a Euless recreation center said Mike Bruce Star-Telegram correspondent SOUTHLAKE City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to approve lot platting for more than 70 acres in three single-family housing developments that eventually will contain I 03 homes The lots are in three developments: Southview Addition on Carroll Avenue across from City Hall owned by Dixtor International (US) Inc and South-lake Hills Phases I and II owned by Dale Poe Development Corp Dixtor is the Canadian development company that offered $37 million in January for the 2000-acre Circle Ranch then owned by the Nelson Bunker Hunt The firm withdrew the offer
