US, PROF UJHAT IS THE OF CJF6 -7 mm by Bob Thaves FRANK AND ERNEST I AH ALSO Off MY ROCKER/ X AM TH& CAPTAIK Of MY X AM THE MASTER OF MY QUESTION: What is a Papillon? * * * ANSWER: A. Papillon is a dainty little dog resembling a toy spaniel. It is the modern development of little dogs known as "dwarf spaniels" often seen on rare old paintings and tapestries of the \ 6th century. After the time ot Louis XIV, the dwarf spaniel was bred extensively in France. Gradually, a type with erect, fringed ears resembling a butterfly, emerged. The French then called the breed, Papillon, which is the French word for butterfly. The Papillon weighs between 6 and 9 pounds. It has a silky coat which may vary in color. The bushy tail is curled over its back and carried like a squirrel. It is a hardy dog and does not contract disease easily. It adapts itself well to a cold or hot climate and to country or apartment living. It is lively, courageous and affectionate, with no irritable tendencies. While the breed carries the name Papillon, some are bred with drooping ears and are accepted for registration. Dogs with erect ears and ones with the drooping ears may appear in the same litter.
