Page 14-THE HERALD, Provo, UUh, Wednesday, May 12, 1976 Date and Cast Set in Payson For Original Musical Play 3 0 I) J' Ci-t PAYSON Cast for the play, "The Spirit from 76" has been selected, according to Noreen Astin, Payson, playwright and producer. The original play will run at Payson High School July 19-24, according to Mrs. Astin. The story is set in Payson during the summer of 1976. Rodney, a young man from Philadelphia, is visiting his girl friend.

Mary Ann Pace, and her family in Payson. They are planning to be married. Benjamin Frankhn is granted the privilege of visiting the earth during the Bicentennial year. Philbtrt. the angel, mistakes Payson for Philadelphia, and Franklin is deposited in Payson's Memorial Park on the night of a July 4th costume party.

Director of the play is Julie Neilsen of Provo, who. along with its author and producer, has "very high hopes" for its success.

"The Spirit from 76" will be the first full-length contemporary musical drama set in Payson, Mrs Astin noted. feel that this community has a way of life that is un'que and should be represented, just as a speaker should express some of his own views, rather than always quoting others." she commented. Mrs. Astin stys she would like to see the Payson area become recognized as a "cultural center of importance" and so is earmarking most of the play 's profits to building a company lo "produce original, wholesome works." She also wishes to make a contribution to Payson's Bicentennial Swimming Pool Astin. His final example of service helps Rodney to see that Payson is the place where he will make his home.
