The invested in these plants amounts to $3,013,931. They employ 7,227 people, who are paid annually In wages. The. value of manufactured products for Topeka this year will reach mighty close to. $20,000,000.

The Commercial Club modestly figures that the Santa Fe shops employ "more than, 2,000 men," but doesn't forget that additions to the plant now being made will add another thousand employees to the number," and that "the general offices of the road located in this city employ more than 700 people," while Topeka Is C'also the headquarters of the Rock Island system west of the Mississippi river and the employees number several hundred." And here are more reasons given why Topeka is a good town to live and prosper in: Topeka is rapidly approaching the 50,000 mark in population; has 42 miles of paved rtreets; 160 miles of cement, brick and stone sidewalk (not a mile of board walk In the city); 74 miles of sewerage and do miles of water mains. The water plant is owned by the city and has a daily capacity of 13,000,000 gallons. The water supply is filtered naturally through sand and gravel and Is of tho purest quality. The city owns the city electric street lighting plant and the Topeka Edison Company has an up-to-date plant for furnishing light, power and heat with a capacity of 5.000 h. furnishing 50.000 candle power lights for commercial and domestic Illumination, 2,000 h.

The Auditorium was erected to meet the demand for a first class convention hall In the capital city of one of the great States of the Union. It is the property of the city and cost $105,000.
