has 18 of the team's 52 homers and 1 03 runs batted in had two singles that did not figure in the scoring "I thought that was really great" Texas coach Cliff Gustafson said of the unexpected power "I think this should give us more confidence that Bryant's not a one-man gang" Arkansas pitched to Bryant like he was a one-man gang in the ninth inning After Tollison's sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third with one out the Razorbacks intentionally walked Bryant to get to Butcher a 302 hitter with 35 RBI and three homers For Butcher it was a familiar situation Three weeks aeo in Arkansas the Razorbacks three times walked Bryant to face Butcher Three times he failed "I knew they were going to walk Scott" Butcher said "I wanted to take a pitch but there were guys on base so I decided to swing away" Good decision On reliever Phil Stid-ham's first pitch Butcher lined a shot over the right-field fence Dressendorfer (14-2) who spent most of the day pitching out of the stretch went seven innings Through six innings he had allowed one run on five hits but had thrown 101 pitches " I knew it was goi ng to be tough to get a complete game in this weather" Dressendorfer said of the 9Q-degree heat and 86-percent humidity "I had a lot of 2-2 and 3-2 counts early Going into the eighth I told 'em I'd try to hang in and get some grounders" The eighth was a Stephen King inning for the Longhorns They made errors on three consecutive ground balls and could have been charged with two more as the Razorbacks rallied for two runs And it could have been worse Catcher Kirk Piskor nearly broke open the game with a shot off the wall in left It was inches foul Piskor a freshman from Piano East High School then hit a hard grounder to Newkirk He stepped on third and threw to second for out No 2 The Longhorns nearly turned a triple play but Tollison's relay to first was high and bounced off the wall as a run scored to make it 4-3 "That would have been appropriate if we had turned three" Gustafson said "It was a weird inning" During the regular season Houston handed A&M one of its five losses and scored 27 runs in three games Last night Houston fell on its own sword committing four errors At least three of them belonged in the "dumb play" category "We played very poorly on defense" Houston coach Bragg Stockton said "We made errors and we were indecisive We didn't seem to be in the game mentally" ' Texas A&M broke it open with a five-run second inning The Aggies SWC Tournament Through Sunday:Southwest Conference Baseball Tournament Top four regular-season teams in
