Only we know the fact the ultimate fact of our earthly career. It mast be met by each one, and it must be dealt with personally, as a mighty foe, bat it is not now an uneonquerad foe. The deadly sting has been binoted, although some pain of it may yet remain. It strength and power and dominion, in the case of a Christian believer, are gone. It is true that still arrayed against him are the old antagonists the law's power, eooeoiooa sin the grave the dread of something after death bat, as it ware, on a conquered battle-field The hymn of tnnmpb is shouted over sB.

"Death Is svsllewed sp is victor; Thank he to God wbioh giveth ns the victory, through oar Lord Jeans Christ" "That shall Una aaying be broaght to pass, uAc this corruptible shall have pat oo Incoimption." Aithoagh the event which convenes as to-day may be said to be in the ordinary ooarea of Providence'1 only what was to be expected oar respected and beloved mother bad reached the allotted limit of human Hfe She had fulfilled her oourae, and like shook of corn folly npe is gathered and safely boused, having peace- pund to bar lod Imn, sooUwd by I lb.IOTU.gOU. of children Happy spirit' tby toils are thy cans are overt- Peacehriwod nrtw thy joy I That onee eare-worn brow is now smooth and placid 1 Why soooid gnv? No not for thee but for those who remain and are tn the heat of buttle, engaged id the ooofliet, in danger of being taken by the foe at unawares, and are all the time in fear, subject to bondage to the king of terrors, for three we tremble, and there we hope to assure of safety For the comfort of each ws linger before this mystery aud open the eolation of its dark and profound depths. We cannot ooldly look upon this death as the mere payment of a debt doe to nature," but rather as an illustration of the all con qnering power of cbnatian principle The fast did indeed ooour, but so changed as to lore its sting and its deadly venom. I look upon that pUoid faoe and nan easily imagine its former ooeopant to be now eayiog 1 ibtw In the llfbt of Ood Hit IlkroeM stampa brow Tbro tbe vallev of OMib my feet have trod, And I ralgn ro flora now tin au grief, uo Safe to mj happy fome, find my doubt harpists my hud. If then is any care of death where the mystery is solved the grava divested of its tenure the corpse appropriately adorned aith flowers, and the dead form of even an aged person pleasant to look upon we hare it now before na.

A rsdiaooe brighter than any of there tokens of filial lore streams from that ooffined body by means of her ofaristlaa faith. And by this is not meant an exuberant flow of pious sentiment, sometimes finds expreenon in enthns and raptures of emotion, for sueh was not tfaa form her religious life took on. Rather it waa more in the domestic virtues. Her large motherly heart gathered all the world into her boms. Thai was bar kingdom, end there she reigned as queen Her children will rise up and testify of her intense love for them all, end perhaps they did not io well koow that all this wealth of affection bad a farther reach in anxieties for their spiritual welfare.

Ootalde of this charmed drole she wu not widely known, bnt by some die will be remembered as a true friend And who does not know the rare valneof a real frieod In snob ft world as this? I apeak not now officially, as a mere matter of form, and to be said in oourre on such an ooeaaion as tide, but a personal, individual matter Known to me were some of those outside the family circle who were happy in her friendship and also many of her acts of generosity to tbs needy onee who were entire strangers to her, I know that she would not approve the language of fulsome praise on this ocoesion, children know too well the high esteem for her in this community to desire a formal eulogy. Yet I must be permitted to uy that the reputation a ehnstian she brought with her when Mia cams to this town, forty yean ago, she fully maintained her entire reaidenoe here. For yean, as a near neighbor, I bad to eee her almost daily, and never without some token of pleasing recognition. Bat what is of more conaequfbee is Uw faultless mtegntyof her Christian character, the high tons of her religious principles. I can reoolleot no instance of her failure to express aa opinion on the ngbt aide of any question of moral that came up, when she was asked.

Several times when I spoke of matters of interest, I found that she waa well although she did not go abroad, and me an idea that surprised me, for its evidence of independent thought, as well aa of dear moral perceptions Her ooitBcieooe was sensitive and highly cultivated by diligent attendance on religious ordinances. No minister ever bad a more noeptive hearer, especially when his utter ences came lucked with Thus saith the Lord Aud I may add that no one had Ii respect for mere human opinions when pat ia the plaoe of Scripture teaching, or spoken the pulpit aa words of God. Often hare I wished that same of those good, atroag, though homely, oommon sense religious idsea could be uttered in the hearing of tba timid, doubting, half hearted of the ehnstian wnriH Although Mia maintained a uniformly cheerful spirit, she had her times of sorrow Of these it is not becoming here to speak, aa she merer spoke of them herself. Yet I hare reason to know that she passed thiongh the school of affliction, and that the deep watere and billows of trial often weut over her head. So that she to among that happy throng of whom it to said, These are they that bare ooms out of greet tribulation, and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb She was an apt scholar in this aohooi, and hence, unlike many wayward, querulous believers, he was made wiser, better, happier by them.

The loving Father never suffers Hu chit-dren to fall Into tronbla but He meana to make it work together with other things for their good, and good will always follow affliction Improved. It would sot be proper, even if 1 were able, to uy much of her direct preparation of heart for the final departure But when last I uw her, two years ago, upon bidding bar farewell, she freely expressed her hope and her expectation that our next meeting would be in the mansion above not made with hands. Death wu to bar thinking, even then, a familiar theme, and not unwelcome. She was not quite ready to uy with the aged Simeon, Lord, now letUst Thou Thy servant depart in peeoe, for mine eyu have seen my salvation for some were not yet to her mind. Her motherly heart, enlarged by the grace of Christ, yearned over her children, and the wu in pain to bring them all to the new spiritual life lb birth of love snd faith hope MRS.

The Committee on Organisation was in session till a date hour this evening After electing George Williams, of Indiana, chairman, the committee proceeded to the selection of a permanent oh airman and secretary of the convention. Chicaoo, Jane 4 It was somewhat alter 11 o'clock thw morning when the convention was called to order Mr Hawkins, of Tennessee, Introduced a resolution binding the delegatee to support the nominee of the convention, whoever that might be. This wu considered a move by the Blame managers. It provoked fieree discussion, and had to be withdrawn.

The committee on permanent organization reported that they had selected Gen. J. Henderson, of Missouri, for permanent ohairman, And C. W. Eilsbee, of Michigan, for secretary, together with a long list of vioe presidents.

The report was agreed to A number of unimportant resolutions were offered, and refereed to committees. The convection adjourned at 12 SO till 7 oclock p.nt. In the evening, Chairman Henderson called the convention to order at 7 95 A resolution was offered to isene 500 tickets of admission to veteran soldiers, bnt it having been ascertained that the number of tickets already Issued were sufficient to fiU every seat in the hali, the reeoluUos waa not agreed to. The convention adjourned until 10 o'clock to-morrow morning. Before the delegates left their seats it was annoonoed that there was no longer any doubt that the Ilepublieans had carried Oregon, eiecng their Congreeeman and a majority of the Legislature, which wflj secure the gain of a Doited Btatea Senator Tremendous applause greeted the announcement It conceded that an Important point was gained by the anti Blaine men in their eocoessfnl efforts to delay They protracted the debate to-day solely to prevent the con vention from reaching a ballot tomorrow, and they practically exhausted the first day in the eleelion of a temporary chairman They can now delay a ballot until Fnday, and that does not promise well for Blaine.

It was delay and bad leadership that doomed him in 1876 and 1880, and to-night looks the same causes were here to prodaoe the same result. The balloting in all probability will not oommenoe before Friday. The general Impreesion la that the chances of the nomination of a man not heretofore prominently mentioned have been increased. The names most frequently mentioned are the two Shermans and Gresham. Chicago, June 5.

The convention waa called to order at 10 54, and opened with prayer by Bishop Fallows, of the reformed Episcopal church. Henry Ballard, of Vermont, chairman of the Committee on Ore dentals, reported that the sessions of that oommittee bad been almost continuous, and the result was a unanimous report THE PLATTOBX. The platform renews allegiance to the principle on which the party has tnomphed in aix successive Presidential elections, and congratulates the American people on the great work of the Republican party. It recognizee in the administration of President Arthur a wise, conservative and patriotic policy, under which the coos try baa been blessed with remarkable prosperity, and expresses the belief that bis eminent services are entitled to and will receive the hearty approval of every partisan. It demands that the imposition of duties on foreign imports shall be made, not for reveone only, bnt also to afford sECunrarloouB mvEBsmxn ixdubtbix and protection io the rights and industries of the laborer, to the end that acbveeud intelligent labor as well as capital may have Its just reward and the laboring man his full share in the Rational prosperity It protests against the so-called, economical sjBtem of the Democratic parly whioh would degrade our labor to the foreign standard.
