of two sophomore Poly backs Saturday night to gain a 20-8 victory at Farrington Field The Bulldogs who replaced Foly in fifth place in the final standings put up a 12-0 halftime lead then halted the Parrots deep in Tech territory most of the second half Halfback Ray Ennis and Fullback Billy Wilcoxson paced the Tech attack Ennis scored the second touchdown on a fine 11-yard sprint and Wilcoxson scored on a four-yard plunge and passed 23 yards to End Richard Hun-gerford for the other Quarterback Glynn Gregory a 5-5 120-pounder and Fullback William Sumpter kept the Parrots in the contest with glittering performances Both are sophs but Sumpter has been a regular throughout the campaign Gregory was playing in his first varsity tilt Leading Ground Gainer Sumpter led all ground gainers BY RILL YOUNGBLOOD Xtar-Trlefram Sports Writer DENTON Nov 21-Shaking off a first-half lethargy the iorth Texas State Eagles made the Sun Bowl selection committee look good Saturday night thundering past outmanned Drake 62-2 to close their regular season with a 9-r reading The Eagles scored the first time they got the ball then settled down to rather clumsy play for the remainder of the first half erecting only a 16-2 lead at recess But in the second half they un-leased all their pent-up fury upon the hapless Bulldogs and nabbed their biggest victory since they turned back Youngstown 68-13 in 1957 The heroes in green shirts were legion The scoring was spread among the troops with Halfbacks Abner Haynes and Terry Parks and Fullback Bill Groce each picking up a pair of touchdowns Others crossing into the end zone were Halfbacks Billy Christie Chuck Holloway and Dan Smith Wild Fourth Quarter North Texas scored 26 points in a wild fourth quarter getting three touchdowns in a 58-second span The trio of tallies boomed the score from 42-2 to the final count The overwhelming conquest partially erased the Eagles bitter memories of the 6-17 defeat at Tulsa last week and paved the way for a triumphant entry into the Sun Bowl at El Paso Dec 31 where they'll meet New Mexico State The four touchdowns North Texas scored in the final period while Drake Coach Tommy O'Con-nell fidgeted on the sidelines all were results of Drake gifts The first came after Haynes intercepted a Bulldog pass at the Eagle 48 and returned to the Drake 45 CCWGA at Ridglea The Country Club Women's Golf Association will play at The Eagles pulled far out of reach with a three-touchdown barrage in the third quarter The Ridglea at 9 a Tuesday Photo by NORMAN BRADFORD HOLD 'EM Frog Coach Abe Martin and Fullback Jack Spikes appear a bit concerned as they watch Rice on offense in first quarter of Saturday's game at Amon Carter Stadium The Frogs smashed the Owls 35-6 in one of their most impressive performances of the season first came when Groce bulled over from three yards out to cap a brief 17-yard drive which was occasioned when End Frank Klein recovered a Drake fumble A 12-yard punt by i 1 Svetich gave the Eagles possession at the Drake 44 moments later and on the first play a double reverse sprang Parks loose around right end and he blazed all the way down the east sideline for the Flock's fourth touchdown Parks came in for more glory on Drake's next series intercepting a pass by Ken Macke at the midfield stripe and gaining the Bulldog 47 Duty got six ya'fds around right end on the first play then lobbed a screen pass to Christie who took the ball at the 45 cut toward the middle of the field whatever they are Since a season box seat ticket usually costs around $100 in the minors looks like Allen has prepared an attractive package THERE'S BIG RUN ON ASPIRIN STAR-TELEGRAMS When La Grave Field was being rebuilt after the big fire a decade ago this writer made the half-serious proposal that John Reeves build a roof garden where fans could sit at tables and eat and drink while watching baseball People love facilities of that sort at horse and dog races but then there are periods of inaction between races at the tracks Still we've seen some baseball games where food and drink would have been a welcome diversion The morning after the TCUTexas game in Austin a drug store newsstand operator explained she had no copies of the Star-Telegram then added: "Two items have been in big demand all aspirin and Star-Telegrams" She didn't say which faction wanted the aspirin celebrating Frogs or dejected Longhorns There will be some stout help for the Frogs from the "red shirt" squad next fall and in view of the heavy graduation toll they will be needed Some of the leading "red shirts" are Quarterbacks Guy (Sonny) Gibbs and Ben Nix Fullbacks Graham Smith Richard Holden and John Mack Thomas Halfbacks Pete Hill and Roy Dent and Guard Ted Uartness They are good prospects JUNIOR COLLEGE TRANSFERS MAY HELP BEARS The Frogs will lose heavily at fullback where Jack Spikes and Merlin Priddy are completing their eligibility and where Max Pierce is a senior although he has another year of play coming if he decides to use it Baylor also will get strong help from the holdout squad which includes several junior college transfers from California The Bears have a strong freshman squad too plus many top sophomores from this year They probably will not be the No 1 favorite next year but they will be rated near the top Leon the Peon after an absence of a couple of years favored Uncle Sam with a little postage this week Mixed in with his tale of misfortune on a trip to Arkansas to watch the Frogs and Razorbacks was this little gem which he said he overheard while getting his black locks snipped into form First Dip: "I finally break my girl from bite her finger nails" Second Dip: "Yeah how you do it?"
