Razorbacks appeared to remain fresh and full of eagerness TCU got her second toucbuown between Arkansas' fourth and fifth scores All three came in the final 15 minutes The game's most sensational play or at least the longest gainer came in the last 30 second when Leon (Muscles) Campbell a third-string Arkansas halfback took a kickoff and bulled his way 85 yards to the only touchdown not assisted by the spanking breeze Defensively the TCU line did a good job holding Arkansas ground game to three first downs but offensively it couldn't open up holes The latter failure was however partly the fault of ineffective blocking by the backs Frogs Disorganized Seldom has a Meyer-coached team shown such inaDtitude in the passing department offensively or defensively Had Arkansas put on the exhibition it would have certainly been laid to the coaching of the man from rush-crazy Tennessee but when it wa displayed by the team coached by the same man who has given TCU the greatest passing teams in the nation it was evident that something besides coaching was responsible Offensively neither the throwing nor the catching was up to Meyer standard and the protection of the passer left much to be desired Arkansas' passing was better than TCU's and the Razorbacks make no pretense of being a passing team Arkansas' pass defense which was weak against Oklahoma last week was considerably better than TCU' Although mass line play that was effective there wasn't an outstanding linesman on the field It was different with the backs Aubrey Fowler Ken Holland and Ross Pritchard of Arkansas were of the Southwest and one of the great teams of the nation Fenimore Hurt in Second The Aggies led by All America Bullet Bob Fenimore had not tasted defeat in 21 straight games against college opposition Even though troubled with injuries they were estimated to be more than enough for the test But even with Fenimore ripping and roaring with all his old-time fury it was a contest for only 17 minutes That was the time required for them to get their first two touchdowns And on the impetus of those first two Texas banged to two more touchdowns in the second quarter and came bacl with four more in the last half Fenimore left the game never of Texans Henry Ransom of Houston and Harry Todd of Dallas Todd won a notch among the last-round favorites with a 66 his lowest card so far and good enough to pare his total to 207 Ransom also put together his top effort of the first three tries with a 68 Saturday for another 207 mark The only other amateur among the ranking 10 with Stranahan Earl Stewart of Dallas clipped off a third-round 69 to give him the fifth notch with a 208 The fourth Texan completing the third round in the upper strata was Byron Nelson who for the records' sake is still playing Turn to Fazio on Page 2 The Owls scored in every pe Wallace the University of Oklahoma's 172-pound quarterback kicked a 19-yard field goal on fourth down to break a 7-7 deadlock and give the Sooners a 10-7 edge over Texas College Saturday Although the Sooners outplayed the Cadets throughout the game the stubborn Aggie line continually turned back Oklahoma scoring bids It looked like the game would end in a deadlock after both teams threatened in the fourth quarter the Aggies moving to the one-foot line before being turned back Then Oklahoma put on its final drive moving 21 yards to the Cadet 5 after taking an Aggie punt The Sooners picked up only a yard after three downs and with the crowd of 28000 fans screaming Oklahoma was penalized five yards back to the nine for delaying the game With the clock showing just 40 seconds left Wallace split the uprights for three points that gave Oklahoma the contest The Sooners scored in the second period after Norman Mc-Nabb blocked an Aggie kick They began a drive from their 36 and marched to the Aggie 19 There Charles Sarratt passed over the goal but Flanagan intercepted for the Aggies in the end zone and the ball was taken out to the 20 Welch who had been doing some beautiful punting couldn't get his kick off fast enough and it was blocked bw McNabb and recovered by Jess Trotter for the Sooners on the five Three times riod George Walmsley counted twice and the other touchdowns were scattered Walmsley's 90-yard punt return gest splash in tournament competition so far has been winning the 1946 Canadian Open in a playoff with Chicago's Dick Metz came in early with a third-round 66 to give him a 54-hole total of 201 His six-under-par Saturday stint gave Jate-starting Frank Strana-han something definite at which to shoot in order to maintain his second-round lead and the Toledo Ohio amateur finished with a one-under-par 70 to drop into a second-place tie with big Jim Ferrier of Chicago Stranahan and Ferrier completed 54 holes with 202 totals the Chicagoan posting a five-under-par 66 Saturday to keep him within easy reach of the $2000 first place money Stranahan needed a three-un-der-par 68 to overcome Fazio's early lead and considering his two previous rounds of 66 each the job appearetl probable But after a three-under-par first nine and five pars on the back nine he skidded with two bogies on the final four holes opening the Rice scoring was the high moment of the game The starting lineups: California Poly 21 San Diego State 13 olorado 6 Ctah State 0 College of Paific 31 Williams Aril Army Air running 50 yards for one touchdown and catching a pass for another Coaches believe that if Billy can gain 10 or 15 pounds without losing his speed he'll develop into a really great back He now weighs only 165 Still another freshman Paul Campbell of Breckenridge already has 'won one remarkable distinction He has the practice regulars claiming that he's a better passer or will be a better passer
