Most of them had arrived expecting an explosion from the Tigers (9-2- 1) who boasted the running tandem of Dalton Hilliard and Garry James balanced by the rifle arm of Jeff Wickersham But thrown into the pit with a raging Baylor defense they were dead meat With five minutes left in the game and the situation hopeless Wickersham he of the 2000 passing yards was replaced by freshman Mickey Guidry on spectacular mischief and was ignominiously pitched into the hoosegow for its troubles The Baylor Bears ended the 1985 campaign in midseason form forgetting their late-season problems and grinding LSU underfoot 21-7 in the 27th annual Liberty Bowl in front of 40186 lightly chilled fans EMPHIS Tenn We left them in November fresh out of Cotton and swaddled in Kleenex If there was life after on TCU coach Jim Killingsworth Fourteenth-ranked UAB held off a spirited second-half charge by the llorned Frogs to post a hard-fought 69-62 victory in the opening game of the Holiday Classic The last time (1977) these two coaches had met Killingsworth's Idaho State team stunned Bartow and UCLA in the NCAA West Regionals Though underdog TCU turned in a good effort Bartow's team had the upper hand Friday night The 12-1 Blazers rolled to a 10- point halftime lead then were forced to scratch out the win in the final minutes "We had our opportunities" said Eillingsworth "but we just got too far a jewel of a series Dallas and Portland can't just play a simple basketball game No way The Mavericks and Trail Blazers act like it is their duty to elevate the game to a new art form The result makes
