it in their line Danny Noble 33 is the designing half of the team His wife Annette Noble 38 cuts the pat terns and edits the collection They hit it big in the United States in 1982 designing classic cloth lug with whiz bang impact "I try to inject a sense of style to my clothes that transcends the trends of the moment" said Dan ny Noble "My ideas are based on classics with a point of view" Danny Noble was born in Canada and moved to London at age 3 Upon graduation from college he went to work as an assistant to British designer Bill Gibb and designed for a chain of trendy London boutiques under his own label Annette Noble was born and raised in England where she studied dance and fashion design She worked as a designer for a pacesetting boutique before opening her own shop and eventually a successful design and patternmaking studio The couple met when Danny Noble approached Annette Noble about making patterns for his designs Danny Noble came to the United States in 1981 to work for Albert Nipon and Annette soon followed They commute between their Seventh Avenue showroom and their Philadelphia design studio The Danny Noble show was one of the hottest tickets at the fall showings and as models strolled the runway in the Noble's offerings it was easy to see why Their shirt-tails-out menswear-inspired look for women also works for men this fall with the Nobles introducing their first line of men's cloth ing The look that works for both sexes comes from the streets of London and includes broad round shouldered slightly oversized blazers vests big shirts and straight-legged trousers Long oversize coats featured bold pockets and looked terrific in ice cream pastel wool and mohair They were paired with Icelandic leggings and sweaters or checked jackets and trousers Jumpers slipped over pants and under easy jackets in mixes of black-with-bright geometries and tweeds Short paisley blazers rode over longer foulard tunics and trousers Noble's designs are available at department and specialty stores Anne Pinkerton Anne Pinkerton's designs look veddy veddy British despite the designer's Georgia roots Pinkerton who holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Georgia began her company in 1983 designing for "the baby boomers grown up" she said The clothes are contemporary and prices a re moderate She said she likes women to experiment and have fun with her clothes "I want women to go a little past where they've been" she said She said she sees her customer as sophisticated but comfortable contemporary rather than classic She likens her attitude to food: "We provide the produce with our attitude (thecustomer)innovates with nouvelle cuisine" Pinkerton showed her witty fall collection in an insouciant spoof of medieval England and gay I Continued from Page 1 In 1982Adri WOR the Coty Award for Excellence in Fashion Design for the "soft sportswear" she's designed for about 20 years and her clothes have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution Adri was born in St Joseph Mo She studied design at Washington University did a stint as a guest editor at Mademoiselle magazine during her sophomore year and earned her design degree from Parsons School of Design Iler first design job at 1111Wragge lasted eight years From there Ad ri designed for other clothing manufacturers licensing her designer sportswear collection to Habitat Industries in 1979 In 1983 she formed her own namesake company Adri said she sees continuity in her clothes with one collection growing from another This "fashion continuum" as she calls it is best exhibited by her fall collection a great group of fluid jersey dresses in ivory or bright colors Zippered waists and pockets accent the dresses Accessories include leggings and surprise sneakers Take away the leggings and sneakers add pumps and you've got a sophisticated day-intoevening look For evening Adri mixes a plaid mohair jacket with a floral-print satin camisole and evening pants Its a pretty feminine and comfortable look Other good looks from Adri include a beige fake mouton jacket over a silk shirt and leggings and an attached-vest irridescent sapphire raincoat over a T-shirt and paisley wool pants Adri's designs are available at boutiques throughout Tarrant County Cleopatra Cleopatra Broumand got her name after he mother saw the classic Cleopatra movie starring Claudette Colbert She was born in Tehran and at 13 was sent to school in the United States While attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York Broumand opened her own design firm and was already producing her first collection when she graduated with a degree in fashion design For eight years she created readyto-wear for women men and children Following her marriage in 1972 she and husband Thomas Birrenbach lived in Germany Tehran Peking (where she was a consultant to the Chinese textile industry) Los Angeles and again in Manhattan She is fluent in six languages Boursand designs the knits and printed silks she uses in her designs and has them produced in Italy She calls her fall collection "nouvelle couture" "lit isitip-to-date with a young modern sense of style and fairy tale extravagance" she said "My designs are wearable with a quality you can feel as well as see" She said she drew inspiration for the fall collec tion from the Houghton Shah-nameh or Book of Kinds sumptuous 16th-century illustrations of the epic poetry of the 10th-century Persian writer Firdowsi Her knits are broad-shouldered and colored emerald ruby sapphire jet and ivory Patterns mix with patterns Long tunics with gently twisted cowl collars slip over skinny pants or long lean trumpet skirts For evening Boursand likes fluid silhouettes in irridescent satin brocades shimmering lames quilted silks and crushed velvets Boursand's designs are available at department and specialty stores Michael Katz Michael Katz traded his canvases for silks after a buyer from Bergdorf Good man saw his paintings decided they would tran slate beautifully into scarves and commissioned a collection that sold out in a week Since then the 33-year-old Katz' business has grown from scarves to fanciful block quilted satin-faced three-quarter evening jacket of brights with black quilting tied off with silk threads and worn over narrow satin stirrup pants The futuristic galactic group features space age paintings on silver moire Katz paints black paisley designs on the purple satin charmeuse sarong skirt of an evening gown with black velvet bodice dolman sleeves and hip yoke He also paints fabrics in splatter prints moonscapes and stained glass compositions Shapes tend to be slim slimmer and slimmest Details are kept to a minimum allowing the art and the woman who wearsittoshine through Morisane Morisane "Sunny" Shiroma presented his first formal showing for fall '85 a 30- piece collection that projected a sophisticated ladylike image often sparked with subtle detailing Shiroma28 was born in Okinawa and graduated from the American School in Japan in Tokyo In 1977 he moved to Paris enrolled in Esmod Fashion Design Academy designed clothing for a small following and helped
