and Green bogeyed but fell two behind with a bogey at No 4 Then came a big swing at the par-5 fifth hole Trevino made the green in two and sank a 10- footer for an eagle-3 while Green again bogeyed and suddenly Tre vino was in the lead It did not last even one hole A three-putt green one of four Trevino had in the round dropped Trevino back to 5-under and back into a tie with Green That turned out to be the only time Trevino had sole possession of the lead But even though Green matched his birdies at both the seventh and ninth holes Trevino fig ured the momentum still was going in his direction "It was going just about the way I wanted" Trevino said "I drew first blood I shot (a 3-under) 32 on the front nine that's a pretty good round so when we went to the 10th hole I felt extremely good because I'd been playing the back nine very well" But Trevino didn't on Sunday He bogeyed No 10 then missed a great opportunity on No 11 a 577-yard par-5 when he three-putted from 20 feet after reaching the green in two StillTrevino gained a share of the lead because Green bogeyed the llth hole "But that was the turning point" Trevino said about the llth hole -1 And he was right to a point because that was the last hole Green played above par Green who was noticeably angry by the inconsistent condition of the play in two more events the Buick Open and the World Series of Golf before returning home And in the near future he would like to try playing a full schedule of US tournaments If his showing in Denver a 3- under-par total of 281 in any indication TM would dojust fine on the PGA tour On Sunday he was the finest player on the Cherry Hills Country Club course shooting a 6- under 65 And he also had one of the most interesting rounds of the day as well what with nine birdies three bogeys and just six but one on the back nine posted on his scorecard Though anyone watching the two Chens play might have trouble distinguishing one from the other there is a difference between the two speaks fairly fluent English while TC knows very little English relying mostly on his caddie and manager David Chan to interpret the language According to Chan TM said he was "very relaxed" on Sunday He also was very good NOTES Chen's 65 on Sunday was the fourth time the previous Lee Trevino right congratulates greens "I was so mad I could eat the grass off this green" he proclaimed at No 7 suddenly calmed down and played his best golf of the day over the final eight holes And his rival couldn't keep pace Trevino fell back with a bogey at No 12 and then caught up again with a birdie at No 13 But when he three-putted from 12 feet at No15 one of four three-putt greens he suffered through on Sunday Green had the lead for good Nancy Lopez reacts to a missed The couple had decided that Lopez would enter the tournament and Knight would have time to watch because of the strike by major league baseball players The strike ended before the first round began and Knight only saw his wife play three holes "I told him I wanted to shoot for 22 under since his number is 22" Lopez said "I thought I might be able to make it I was just short" Lopez became the LPGA's top
