a doubleheader Monday at the Arl1 ington Athletic Center 1 The Mavericks improved to 24- 14 with the sweep going into a Tuesday road trip with Dallas Bap- tist College South Dakota dips to s' 0-6 after opening its season with i four losses to Oklahoma State The Mavericks scored seven 1 runs in the third and 12 in the fourth to crush South Dakota in the first game UTA sent 17 batters to the plate in the fourth frame of the five inning affair UTA outhit the visitors 15-4 with Greg Faught lead- ing the way with 3-for-3 James Rains Matt Skinner and Steve Ralston had two hits each Skinner had a triple Craig Jenn- ings had a double UTA starter Michael Holly improved to 5-1 by allowing one run on three hits in four innings Da vid Rodriquez allowed one hit in going the final inning 1 1 I La Faught turned in another solid game in the nightcap with a 3-for-4 effort while Skinner was 3-for-5 with five RBIs Dave Zech was 2-for-3 and Trey Hillman 2-for-a Hillman was 3-for3 and scored eight times in the series The ex-Sam Houston star walked six times Banas pitched three innings and yielded one earned run on three hits Mike Meek struck out three and gave up two hits in three innings of relief Skinner had a double and triple while Dave Zech belted his eighth homer The Mays had dropped three of four games going into the South Dakota State game including 14-6 and 54 setbacks to Mankato Northeast Louisiana University's women's athletics is giving the UTArling- ton Mays major migrains The basketball Lady Indians who will make their first appearance at the NCAA Final Four this weekend in Austin were South- land Conference champions this 1 year ahead of UTA which fin ished second This past weekend the Northeast softball team 'claimed two diamond victories over the UTA softball team 2-0 and 6-0 The Mays' first conference game of the season took eight inn ings and a special rule The game was scoreless after the regulition seven innings International rules require a runner to be Daniels is expected to run the high hurdles and both the sprint and mile relays at Baylor David Peltier is expected to run both the open quarter and the mile relay at the Waco meet At Baton Rouge Peltier ran a 4734 in the trials of the 400 but came in eighth in the finals with a 478 Denis Trottier was third in the triple jump at 50-11 David McKin zie was fifth in the 200 at 2135 and Donnie
