impression that station honcho John McKay's plan for attacking his numerous Metroplex competitors is to head 'em off at the pass In the first three days of its operation as a full-time independent programmer Monday through Wednesday Channel 27 will air 28 Western movies McKay hasn't been a Texan very long but he knows the territory "In this market you can't go wrong showing Westerns" he said "It seemed a good way to get viewers and attract attention for our opening" From Thursday on he noted the Channel 27 schedule will be as broadly based as those of the other Fort WorthDallas independent television stations The fact that there already are four other full-line independents in the market not to mention the powerful network affiliates and heavy cable penetration doesn't seem to bother McKay the former general manager of KDFW-TV Channel 4 who with other investors began the process of acquiring Channel 27 about a year ago At that time and up to a few weeks ago Channel 27
