We have to thank our forefathers for the generous lines upon which Topeka was founded, for her broad avenues and easy grades. And we are indebtetd to the present generation of Topeka, which has builded so well in the shape of fine street pavements, sew this city.

1 will not speak of the branch lines of these systems, running from Topeka to Leavenworth, to Onaga. to Marysville. which point to better things to come. Nor will I refer to the numerous electric roads all headed towards and centering at Topeka. and all of which will and must be built; in fact, are financed and are all but building now.

Neither will I especially make mention of the Topeka Southwestern railway, which completes the all-important strategic cut-off between Topeka and Council Grove, which line is as straight as the proverbal crow flies, and opens up hundreds of miles of new and richly developed country to the merchants of the Capital city; These roads are certain and the building thereof sure.
