Indiana Prepares To Halt Attacks On Cage Officials INDIANAPOLIS Attacks by fans on officials of high school basketball games and free-for-all fights that sometime follow have increased so greatly this year that they arc worrying high school athletic association officials throughout the country. Betting and overcrowding of fieldhouses and gyms are to blame, in the opinion of L. V. Phillips, commissioner of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, who has his own problems with crowds threatening officials and even attacking players. "Something must be -done to stop this outbreak of poor sportsmanship and the local off als must take the steps," said Phillips.

"Spectator participation," which is Phillips' polite name for the outbreaks, is due mostly to jamming more people into fieldhouses than they can seat, and to betting. Phiilips said. "If fans are forced to stand In aisles and along the edge of the court, they are too close to the players and the officials and the general discomfort puts them in a bad humor. "As for betting, It's the 'community betting' that is worse than the professional betting in high school games. "The father of a plnyer or the friends of the conch or the high school respected and then gets little too wrought up when things go against his team.

He makes a rush for the official or the plnyer. and the fight is on. "Professional belting probably limited pretty well to parlny cards, and these plnyc-m seldom see the games they bet said Phillips. The Tennessee Association lias put five of its member schools on proration because of attempts to mob officials after jRames. TO HELP COUGHIN new CHEST RUB ON Accused 'Fixing' All a Joke Says Rocky Graziano NEW YORK. story of a $100,000 bribe offer which District Attorney Frank S. Hogan said was told a grand jury by Middleweight Boxer Rocky intensified Tuesday an investigation of "fixing" of sports events here. Hogan said Graziano "admits he used a sore back as an excuse" to call off a fight with Ruben "Cowboy" Shank of Denver, three days before it was scheduled Dec. This, Herman said, came after the scrappy fighter had been visited twice in his dressing room by a man offering the $100,000 if Gra- yjano would throw the man whose name Graziano said he could not remember.

Although as an odtls-on favorite Graziano felt he could defeat Shank, Hogan continued, "he realized he would be double-crossing persons who had bet on his opponent on the basis of his two meetings in the dressing room. He, therefore, decided to pull out of the match. He admits that he used a sore back as an excuse." The fighter's only comment to reporters was, "believe me, it's all a big joke." Sol Slraus, acting director of the 20th Century Sporting Club, had announced early Monday that Graziano, rated next to Joe Louis as a fight gate draw, would begin training Saturday at Greenwood Lake, N.
