61-4t ol. Corcoran -As we stated, yesterday, this officer, so notorious throughout the country, passed through town on. Monday, en route for Richmond" to be exchanged. This is the third time he has passet' through Petersburg, and we understand he has some fears that he is not destined to 'be exchanged just yet, but that he is to be reserved for some other purpose. Of this, we know noth-thing.

It is said of him, that stepped from the cars, on the James river, tt-be sent to Belle Isle prison, he was ordered, xtt company with the balance of the Yankee prisoners, to form into line with their back Jtidmand. They all obeyed this order with gjea "alacrity, the Colonel remarking as he did SO, "that he "would much rather fall into line with his back to Bicb- mond, than with his face to it- "For," said he, "I never want to face that kI city A gentleman standing by, hearingnis epeech. said him, "I suppose not, sirj youfwere captured your back to RichmondT'ind I presume that vour favorite position." We reckon so, too, it is the case with all of them. Pet. Exp Yankee Stealing.

The force of twlre or fi hundred on the south bank of the river con tinue to penetrate Into the interior of Prince George, and rob and steal everything -within their reach. Ihey visitea the house ot Mr. m. n. Harrison day before yesterday, and -after stealing the poultry, entered the dwelling, and with an cut xo pieces vaiusDier waroroDes, pureaua, They went into a kitchen loft and itole the clean shirts of a negro, leaving their filthy, vermin-infested flannels behind.

They gave a negro two half-dimes to catch all the chickens about yard, and then departed, forcing away, with them a valuable? servant man, who has for many veara acted as foreman of the plantation. The negro ia said' to have begged piteously and with tears streaming from his eyea, to be allowed to remain, bat thej were deaf to his entreaties. Jfttcrburg JUxpress, A Yankee correspondent, writing from McClel- lan's army, comnlanicates the following to the New York Tribune: Two rather singular eases of remarkable escape from living burial are related as having occurred subsequent to tab battle of air Uaks. The body a Colonel was found on the field and brought Arrangements were made tor embalming lL The process includes the use of. galvanism.

The shock as given. To the astonishment of all the Colonel rose and walked forth. The other case was that of a Colonel found dead on the field. In deference to his rank he was brought to the hos pital and laid among the dead. His friends pre-paxed to give hint a decent burial, and were about carry tKe body out, when the Colonel rolled over, and in tones more like those of a man drunk than dead, called out, "Ben, John, where is my whiskey flask; Small Butinets.

Capt. H. Stewart of the 2d Virginia regiment, has sent to this office several specimens of counterfeit small notes, which were lound ia a bundle thrown away by one of he Yankee prisoners, captured at the battle of Cedar Kan. One of these is a twenty-five cent note of the corporation of Richmond, exceedingly well executed and calculated to deceive. Another, is a one dollar note, corporation of Richmond, first issue, dated April 19, 1861.

This note bears only a slight resemblance to the genuine and may be easily detected. The third is a twenty-five cent note of the county of Camden, North The fourth is a fifty cent note-on the "Mechanics Savings and Loan Association of Savan- -nah, Ga." No other people than the Yankees would resort to the contemptible business of conn-', terfoitiog these notes, and they. only add another te the manv evidences we alreadv have of the un- principled fog with whom we are contending. Kichmond 1upatch. Another Montter vp the Yazoo.

The Vicks- burg correspondent of the Chicago Tribune saji- much fear is entertained cf Yazoo River, from whose womb has already been brought forth one' monster. The Star of the West, of historic fame, developing the treachery of Federal Govern- ment and afterwards captured off Galveston by the Confederates, is up this river. She is iron plated, and armed with 22 pieces of heavy calibre. The rams Webb and Sumter, armed with guns brought from New Orleans just before the capture, are there, too; and the Confederates have also 36 steamers, which the Federal fleet are prevented from approaching by impediments 75 the riyer, land battery, and a fear of the three Confederate war steamers. v- Vice for the Semi-Weekly Observer $8 00 if paw in advance; $3 60 if paid during the year of subscrip- I ion; or after the year has expired.
