Federal Communications Commission recommends that the FCC rescind its order last year limiting further expansion of cable television into urban television markets AT THAT TIME the FCC cable companies by importing programs from distant areas into a city would have an unfair advantage over local over-the-air broadcasters both commercial and UHF But Johnson and Park said in advance of the release of their report that if forced to compete with cable television UHF and commercial stations would suffer only a nine per cent loss in revenue That they added be wiped out by one typical revenue BUT COMMERCIAL stations in some cities could lose as much as 56 per cent of their revenue the two said While introduction by cable of distant signals into big city markets would fragment UHF station the report said "this would be more than overcome by the advantage to the UHF stations of being picked up by the same cable would enable the viewer to tune in the UHF The FCC has long held the law gives
