be involved with them "But my understanding was that they had an agreement with KETZ So we went ahead and got the NTsu broadcasts and the people at NTSU have been very helpful I still offered to contract any Tcu games that didn't conflict with NTSU games this year and we just confirmed that we will broadcast the Sept 10 game with Kansas "But I'm wide open to work out something with them for next year if they would like to work with us" Two of the remaining TCU games this season will be broadcast in this area by MD The station already has all SMU games and will also pick up the Sept 17 Kansas State game (SMU is off that week) The final two games are still in the negotiating process with local stations and Dickey said he could not announce them at this time But he is confident they will be carried in the area "Two weeks ago I wasn't so sure we would sell all of them in this area" said Dickey "But I am certain now It's just a matter of firming up the details now so all 11 TCU games will be carried by some Metroplex station" I By JIM CARLEY Star-Telegram Writer TCU football fans who were faced with the prospect of searching for Frog games on the radio every week this season got at least a partial reprieve Thursday and prospects for Frog radio broadcats in the future appear to be better than ever TCU was the only team in the Southwest Conference which did not have a home broadcast station before this week But Fort Worth AM station KJIM (870) announced Thursday it had contracted to broadcast the last six games in TCU coach Jim Wacker's inaugural season as well as a five-daya-week Wacker talk show And next year the Frogs may even be a hot commodity The team no one appeared to want this year may have stations fighting over it next season TCU officials and fans were stunned recently when it looked like the Frogs would be the only team in the new SWC radio network that would not have one number on the radio dial local Frog fans could turn to each week TCU apparently became the victim of an unusual set of circumstances SWC network director Joe Dickey said the Frogs actually were the first station he felt he had wrapped up when he sent out a contract several months ago to KFJZ which carried TCU football and basketball last year But the contract was never returned and Dickey learned only recently that KFJZ is being sold to a group of Mexican businessmen who are planning to change from a country to a Spanish music format The new owners plan to carry no football Dickey quickly tried to find a new home market station for TCU but found the options were almost all closed KXOL which carried TCU two years ago had only recently contracted to carry North Texas State games and all of the other stations in the area either already had football agreements or were locked in formats that did not include football WBAP has Texas football WFAA has Texas MAI and KRLD has SMU "After that when you take out all the rock music stations which don't normally broadcast football" said Dickey "and take out all the easy music stations the Spanish language stations the religious stations and the automated country stations you don't have many to choose from" So it appeared TCU listeners would be switching dials every week as Dickey began to try selling the Frog games individually to local stations Dickey was certain he could sell them all but it appeared each week would be a different one leaving TCU as the only SWC team in that situation TCU officials tried to play down the importance of that "Things won't be that much different" said TCU athletic director Frank Windegger "We'll just take out newspaper ads each week to tell our fans where to turn We'll still have them all on some station locally" But the new KJIM deal alleviates at least part of that problem The small daytime-only station which has recently been bought by Ventore Group Inc and is planning to switch to a popular music format soon will carry all six of TCU's day games The other five games will be carried on at least three other stations KJIM vice-president David Button said he wanted all the Frog games but the station's daytime-only limitations precluded that is in the process of applying for nighttime authorization and if it gets that Button said the station would like all TCU games next year The station wanted TCU so much this year it dropped a signed contract with Oklahoma University to broadcast 10 Sooner games (all but the OU-Texas and the nighttime Hawaii games) last week "We were very anxious to have TCU" said Button "When their KFJZ deal fell
