Tyler said that if the jury had heard testimony about Barkleys previous altercations in bars, the outcome could have been different. As for Barkley, I have no personal vendetta against him, Tyler said. Barkley and NBA player Jayson Williams were accused of being in a bar fight in Chicago in 1992.

Charges were dropped. Barkley was acquitted the same year on misdemeanor battery charges brought by a man who said Barkley broke his nose outside a Milwaukee bar. able. Wooden has his sights set on a destination he did not reach in his years with Seattle. Im just looking forward to contributing to this team, and helping us get to where we want to go, which is the Super Bowl, Wooden said.

Also Thursday, Schottenheimer released the names of injured players who would not play Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers: wide receivers Tamarick Vanover (hamstring), Sean LaChapelle (hamstring), and Brett Perriman (hamstring); linebacker Derrick Thomas (tricep); safety Kevin Ross (knee); and newly signed offensive lineman Steve Wallace (toe). Schottenheimer said that Lake Dawson would start in place of Perriman and that the starters would play about one quarter. playing over the tight end, the same position he played in Seattle. One thing Wooden did not do in Seattle was experience a training camp as challenging as the Chiefs. Id have to say this camp is definitely more physical than what I was accustomed to in Seattle, said Wooden, who averaged 106.5 tackles a year from 1993-96 despite missing the first seven games last year because of a hamstring injury.

But in order to win in this league, you have to put in a lot of hard work. And thats evidenced by the Chiefs record in the 90s. Obviously they know what to do, Wooden said. Hes a playmaker, a solid, winning performer, head coach Marty Schottenheimer said. He had a down year last year because of his hamstring, which is probably the only reason he was avail RIVER FALLS, VVis.

(AP) If Kansas City Chiefs coaches are right, fans can still expect big plays from the man in jersey No. 90 but not a homerun swing. The latest Chief to wear No. 90 is seven-year NFL veteran linebacker Terry Wooden, a free-agent pickup this offseason. Hes had a very, very good camp, defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham said Thursday of Wooden, who played all his seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

Hes everything we expected him to be. The last person to wear No. 90 was sack master Neil Smith. Smith, a defensive end who liked to mime a homerun baseball swing after a sack, was signed by the Denver Broncos in April after the Chiefs told him they could not afford to re-sign him. The eight jurors deliberated for about five hours over two days before deciding late Friday morning in favor of the Houston Rockets forward. The trial in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court began Monday. I said from the beginning I didnt do anything wrong, Barkley said after the verdict. Im just so proud all eight of those people found I did nothing wrong. Jeb Tyler, 24, a business equipment salesman from Spencerport, N.Y., sought $550,000 from Barkley.

He offered to settle last week for $12,000 but Barkleys legal team turned it down. Why should I give him Barkley said. He doesnt get a rebound. He doesnt get hit on the head by Karl Malone (Utah Jazz forward). Barkley was in Cleveland with the U.S.

Phil Mickelson, battling for a Ryder Cup berth, was next with 14 points. Tom Lehman eagled the par-5 17th hole today for a round of 13 points, and Dave Stockton Jr. had 12. Scott McCarron and Andrew Magee had 11 points each, and 1992 International champion Brad Faxon was in a group at 10. Greg Norman finished his round today with 9 points.

British Open champion Justin Leonard had 3 points. U.S. Open champion Ernie Els survived a double bogey on his first hole to finish at 5, along with Davis Love III. The Missouri Transportation Corporation Act, passed in 1990 to allow private, non-profit companies to finance, build and maintain transportation projects, could also come into play. Other revenues such as special fees for parking or taxes also could pay for the project. And Platte County could create a sports authority that could issue bonds. Also, the state can offer tax credits to companies to help raise money for public improvements. The company then would receive 50 cents in state income-tax reductions for every dollar contributed.

The firm also would be eligible for a federal tax reduction that could increase the tax savings to 65 cents for every dollar. John Graham, a vice president with International Speedway, declined to say whether one side had gained the upper hand. Graham also would not say whether the proposals meant the company would build in the Kansas City area. But he came close. We are optimistic.

Each state Kansas and Missouri would very much like to have us there, Graham said. At this point, we have a very open mind. Both sites are very acceptable to us. CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) Jay Haas ran off three straight birdies Friday to tie Larry Mize for the first-round lead in the weather-delayed Sprint International.

Haas, maintaining the momentum he had built before play was suspended Thursday afternoon by lightning and rain with half of the field still on the course, finished with 15 points. Haas had 10 points through eight holes when the weather intervened. After resuming his round at 7 a.m., he bogeyed the 12th hole but promptly ran off birdies worth two points apiece on the next three holes. He and Mize, who finished his first round on Thursday, each had eight birdies and one bogey in their rounds. Officials suspended play at 2:45 p.m.

MDT Thursday, then stopped it for the day when the course began flooding about two hours later. The second round was scheduled began at 10 a.m. Friday. The half-inch of rain that fell Thursday on Castle Pines Golf Club brought the total to four inches since Sunday. Todays forecast called for a 40 percent chance of precipitation.

Mize, wielding a new put in economic activity throughout the area. International Speedway, which is publicly traded, owns seven tracks outright and three more with the Penske Motor-sports Inc. It reported profits of $19.6 million for fiscal 1996, which ended Aug. 31, on revenues of $96 million. Kansas officials were mum about the financial details of the proposal, but they offered an outline of public programs the state, county and city would use to help pay for the project.

Those include enterprise-zone tax benefits and star bonds, which allow the use of up to $100 million in state sales tax generated by the project to help pay for it. Lt. Gov. Gary Sherrer said the state also would make road improvements and construction a priority in the area. Funding would come from the states highway fund, he said.

Another factor that appears to be in Kansas favor is that Gov. Bill Graves signed a measure earlier this year to help finance the track. The Missouri General Assembly failed to pass a similar provision. Missouri officials on Wednesdays refused to reveal the amount of the gap, the publics share, or, the way Missouri governments would help finance the project. A tax-increment financing plan, which uses taxes generat rials from Missouri and Kansas traveled to this NASCAR birthplace this week to make their pitch to attract International Speedway to build in their state.

The speedway development would seat 75,000 fans in it first phase, and the company expects to expand that by another 75,000. The track could cost up to $200 million in private and public investment to build. Much of the public money would go toward building and improving roads and infrastructure in and around the speedway. International Speedway officers said the speedway would propel tourism and generate more than $280 million a year 79-1962, to the extent of 5 mint. Section 3.
