Capt. Jerome E. Wechter, 31. of the Lincoln (Neb) Air Force Base; her mother, Dorothy, 29, and a brother, Leonard, 3. Missouri counted five traffic deaths late Saturday and Sunday.

-DEATHSAND FUNERALS Philip Shapel Philip Shapel, 64, who has been associated with local oil producing firms for the past 40 years, died Saturday night at the Veterans Hospital, Wichita, where he has been a patient for the past seven weeks. Mr. Shapel was born in Allen County and has lived here ail of his life. During World War he served overseas with Company 110th Field Signal Battalion, participating in the St. Miheil and Meuse-Argonne battles.

Following his discharge from the army he returned to Iola was employed on the Maire-Hinton oil leases. In more recent years he has been with the Kansas City Testing Laboratories. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Shapel is survived by his wife of the home, 912 East Broadway; a son, James L.

of Wichita; two daughters, Mrs. James Bullard, Topeka, and Mrs. Ray ser, Mabton, four sisters, Mrs. Rose Hoke. Gas City; Mrs.

Sue Funston, Coulee Dam, Miss Grace Shapel, Carlyle, and Miss Bessie Shapel, Iola; four brothers, Amel Shapel, Gas City; Lonnie Shapel, Carlyle; Roy Shapel, LaHarpe, and Lawrence Shapel, Notus, and three grandchildren. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Wilson Baker at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Waugh Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland cemetery.

Mrs. Nora Kidney Mrs. Nora Kidney, 87, a long time resident of Allen County, died this morning at Tulsa, where she has lived for several years. Mrs. Kidney was born in Geor-1 gia, coming to Kansas at an early age.

She and her husband lived in LaHarpe before moving to Iola nearly 40 years ago. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Clyde White, Kansas City, a step-son, Leonard Kidney, Tulsa, a daughter, Mrs. L. A.

Reed, Tulsa, and a sister, Mrs. Estell Thilpott, Santa Ana, Calif. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Means at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Sleeper Chapel.
