eliminated when St Edward's matched the Kangaroos' two touchdowns and added a safety to win by 15 to 13 in a thriller at -Sherman Friday night Southwestern fell 13 to 0- here Saturday afternoon as the Seconds Field Goal I Walter Roach's play against the Longhorns continued brilliant and the 175-pound end won himself further recognition for a berth on the All-Southwestern Conference team Another All-Conference man performed in the game He was Sanger of Texas one of the best wingmen that has opposed the Frogs this year and if his play has been of such quality in other battles his name can't be left off the mythical eleven "Roach Is the best end I've seen this year" said Coach Dutch Meyer yesterday "That's including all of the games we've played too He's All-Conference if there ever was one" Only Tie on Record No other eleven has stopped that pair and no team has defeated the Owls a 9 to 9 tie with the Louisiana State Tigers early in the season being the worst that Rice has fared Loyola Creighton Purdue Texas A Arkansas and Arts and Industries have fallen before the powerful marches of McCauley and Wallace The Owls' ambitions 'against the Frogs will be to keep their undefeated record intact and perhaps gain an invitation to the Rose Bowl an honor for which they are deserving of much consideration The Frog-Owl game is one of three on the conference schedule with Texas meeting Arkansas Friday afternoon at Fayetteville and playing Baylor at Waco Saturday afternoon in the other contests The Texas Aggies will remain idle to make preparations for their Thanksgiving game with Texas Last Hopes Blasted The Frogs' last hopes of gaining at least a tie with the Owls for the title were blasted by the Texas Longhorns 20 to 19 Saturday The Frogs lost through failure to add the point after touchdown a phase of play at which they've been excellent aU year Hugh Wolfe of Stephenville played "Wolf over the River" with the Frogs scoring two of the Longhorns' touchdowns while Bohn Hilliard raced to the other One of Wolfe's pay dirt trips was for 64 yards While the Longhorns gained on running plays the Frogs took to the air for their touchdowns These same aerials are expected to bother the Owls who have shown a weakness against passes this year However the Owls have a more potent running attack than the Longhorns and will tear into the Frog line for gains The Owls continued their tmdefeated pace Saturday by walloping the Texas Aggies 25 to 6 at College Station As usual it was Bill Wallace that led theOwl attack Face Tough Game Texas jumped into a tie with for second place through its win over the Frogs but the Longhorns are facing a tough assignment in meeting the Porkers at Fayetteville T1te Porkers were victorious 20 to 6 last year at Austin and only Saturday threw a scare into before losing 10 to 6 at Dallas The celebrated Mustang aerial circus was needed in the closing minutes of play to beat the Porkers The Porkers also telck to the air for their touchdown 30-yard pass Jordon to Paul Rucker putting the ball on the one yard line from where Choice Rucker went over The Mustangs should have little fear of losing their second place position in meeting the Bears at Waco The Bears were defeated 7 to 0 by Centenary Saturday LOUISVILLE Ky Nov 18 M-- gale and trade of players will be the most important business of executives gathering here for YORK Nov 18 Chicago Bears came within 50 seconds of their fir st defeat in the National Professional Football League Sunday but a field goal by Jack ganders in the last minute of play pulled the game football this week with the National convention at Lout svine Ky Business Manager Roy Meehan of the Fort Worth Cats left here Saturday night and before he returns within a week he expects to have practically built up the club for 1935 He has several deals in minct most important of which is the acquiring of a player-manager Meehan is considering several candidates Two of the applicants are Dick Whitworth and Clarence Jonnard of the 1934 club NEW YORIC Nov 18 mainly to a violent outburst of football fratricide in the East featuring the highly dramatic conquest of Yale's amazipg "iron men" over Princeton and including all told the abrupt demise of three notable winning streaks the seemingly irresistible gridiron forces of Minnesota and Alabama stood alone Sunday as the only major college aggregations neither nor tied The consecruenc- is that Alabama's Crimson Tide now seems the odds-on choice to thunder along to the Rose Bowl and collide with Stanford's powerhouse in the annual New Year's Day intersectional classic unless some unexpected eleventh-hour means can be found for the galloping Gophers to hurdle the Big Ten barrier to such extra-curricular activity Minnesota by something approaching popular acclamation remains the Nation's No 1 football team but thcre's no prospect proving it to the complete satisfaction of those offering rebuttals on behalf of the few surviving unbeaten teams of the South and Far West Dreams Shattered Championship dreams were rudely shattered Saturday for four of the major teams entering Saturday's fray with spotless records Yale's eleven "iron men" playing the entire game without a single substitution achieved the most startling Eastern upset in years by overthrowing Princeton 7 to 0 thereby ending a 15-game winning streak for the Tigers Syracuse unable to capitalize its superior power had its Rose Bowl hopes blasted by Colgate's seventh straight victory over the Orange forces 13 to 3 Navy outclassed by the mighty Pittsburgh Panthers came toppling from its high perch to the lopsided tune of 31 to 7 Meanwhile Illinois was knocked from the Big Ten race as well as out of the unbeaten class by a 7-3 comeback victory for Wisconsin which now offers the only remaining barrier to Minnesota's "unstop-- pables" The day's backwash also engulfed one of the outstanding little fellows 'hen' Depauw of Indiana after a two-year unbeaten march was upset by Wabash 7 to 6 and Cornell added V) the East's spectacular developments by surging back to trounce Dartmouth 21 to 6 after losing four straight games Alabama-Plays randy Only a handful of majo- teams remain in the race for national championship honors with Minnesota and Alabama still well out in front as the result of their latest conquests gained in typically smashing style While the Gophers were blasting Chicago 35 to 7 with Stan Kosta and Pug Lund setting a terrific paca the Crimson Tide rolled over Georgia Tech 40 to 0- with the aid of a deadly barrage of Howell-to-Hutson passes Vanderbilt is now the only obstacle in the path of another Alabama jaunt to the Rose Bowl and it doesn't seem likely the Commodores can check the ter- rible Southern tidal wave Stanford and Rice each rampant so far in their respective zones of combat loom foremost among the teams that have been tied but not defeated although Tersple Louisiana State and the Utah Aggies en- joy the same status in the standing- of the major clubs -tar'ord this week faces thp "hitt -am with California and the Golden Bears served notice they will be no set up by the ferocious way they mauled Idaho 45 to 13 Saturday while Stanford was tuning up nay While Stanford -was tuning tti with a 40-0 victory over the Olympic Club Can't Be ignored No rating of the teams or any discussion of the outstanding aggregations is complete however without taking Pittsburgh Ohio and Colgate into account Each of this trio has tasted one bitter defeat But they can't be ignored on that account While Pitt and Colgate were demolishing a pair of winning streaks Saturday Ohio State enjoyed a historic field day at the expense of the battered Wolverines of Michigan The 34-0 triumph of the Buckeyes most sweeping they have ever gained over Michigan marked a new "low" for the Wolverines who have now lost all five of their Big Ten games and six out of seven contests played this season Meanwhile football's underdogs all over the country can take fresh inspiration from Yale's victory which must be put down as one of the finest team and coaching achievements in years The Elis exploded the bubble of Princeton invincibility In the Tiger's own lair in full view of 52000 astounded spectators and with an "iron man" team that was a throwback to the good old days when the only way they could get a player off the field was to carry him off The avalanche of Princeton manpower thundered twice but was rolled back by the boys in blue who fought savagely and successfully to protect the lead gained on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Jerry Roscoe to Larry Kelley a rangy ballhawk who dashes 25 yards through most of the bewilderedalger team to score Sweet Triumph In the long and cherished history of this rivalry Yale has accomplished many an upset but it is doubtful if any triumph was ever sweeter to the Blue's cohorts than Saturday's The jittery and butter-fingered Tigers played like the Detroit Tigers did in the first game of the baseball World Series Yale now turns to Harvard for the Blue's final game and a chance to win the championship of the reunited Big
