The stands have been sold to Abilene High School and the 1932 Fat Stock Show meet probably was the last athletic event which the public will attend at the field But memories lie in this old playing field of the Frogs which time will not erase With such a limited number 4 pf 1111- uor leagues in operation this year it is most extraordinary that Fort Worth is to furnish three team managers Art Phelan Buddy Tanner and Frank Meyers all of whom make their home in Fort Worth have been named as pilots of the Selma High Point and Port Arthur teams respectively Appointment of those three men is an indirect break for young men training with the Cats It will rive them a good opportunity to get a job if they donl make the grade here Clarence Collier semipro pitcher Ifrom Weatherford who is trying out with the Cats bears a marked -re'semblance to Roy Hansen who was with Fort Worth and Dallas last year Although Roy was left-handed tall and thin and Collier right-handed and well proportioned for a six-foot 190- pounder they have similar pitching motions Both have the habit of not bringing the hands together after their windup and before delivering the ball with a long sweeping of the time overhand sometimes side arm There too is something similar in the facial expressions Hansen by the way is showing something with the Phillies this no Ieagn esti ina ol se it ath ers UR' leir ned omt Ely is if her Emt sr all nd ao 1 ng lot eir all Irt ide lar ng his Wichita Polo Team Loses 7 to 12 I 1 was in 1029 against Daniel Baker-- 61 to Not a conference game was played on Clark Field in 1929 The Frogs won all their home games but met all conference foes away from Fort Worth The seating capacity of the stadium was only 7500 originally and the cost was approximately $400041 Seats were added from year to year until nearly 25000 persons jammed into the stadium to see the Mustang-Frog championship battle that closed the 1929 season The Frogs won 27 lost six and tied two of the 35 football games played on Clark Field during its life time They scored 531 points while opponents were able to chalk up but 198 Teams from 15 colleges and universities have appeared on the field during the six years it Was used They are: Texas A Baylor Duniel Baker East Texas Teachers North Texas Teachers Texas Tech Oklahoma A University of Arkansas Centenary Abilene Christian University of Texas Simmons Rice Southern Methodist and Austin College The last game on Clark Field was played Oct 4 1930 against Austin College The Frogs won 33 to 7 The first track meet at Clark Field was held with Baylor in the Spring of 1925 lost by a score of 74 to 43 Buzz Morgan was the Frog star of those days The track will coit tinue to be used this Spring but Clark Field has seen the days of its glory pass I There is the breath-taking moment 1 when Harlos Green planted his toe the pigskin and watched the ball soar between the goal posts to bring its first Southwest Conference championship There are the lightning feet of Cy Leland as he flew down the cinder track to bring the greatest national attention it has ever received in sports But what about the stadium itself? How was it named? Who were some out of outstanding stars to perform on its turf? Who was the first to score a touchdown on its gridiron? Before the Fall of 1924 Texas Christian played host to visiting football teams in old Panther Park During the Summer of 1924 work was begun on the new home for the Frogs There was a race between the constructors of the Mary Coats Burnett Library and the builders of the new stadium The latter won Coach Matty Bell now at A Nr led his charges on the new playing field for the first time Sept 26 1924 against the East Texas State Teachers' Lions The Frogs won 43 to The first touchdown on the new field was made by Homer Adams on the first play of the game He made a Leo Cotter and George Loepp two of the Dallas Steers who arent due to report for training until Monday visited with the Cats Friday The gossip is that neither of them is likely to be with the Steers this year wo tie loY 0 LO is Edwards
