A contract wnn made this week for the old opera, house by parties who expect to make it Into a rooming house. If oil Is struck here as now expected this will be a paying proposition. Messrs. Yeakley and Tut ley were here this week with truck load of peaches from the Veakley farm. Mr.

Veakley said he had -100 bushels on his orchard near McAlister. He had no trouble disposing of his load Tuesday. Stanley Lawson, at one time a merchant in this city, hut who is now located In the Texas oil fields, was here last week visiting his many friends and incidentally investing In a few leases. J. O.

Whlttington, vice-president of the Tucumcari Oil (ias with headquarters in Amarillo, Is here this week making his headquarters at the McCiee well in which he is greatly interested financially and otherwise. There Is no telling what you can raise on one of these dry farms. The past week has witnessed the raising of lease prices from up to $25.00 per acre, and the chances are the price will continue to grow mnny times the present prices. The citizens of Cuervo, or a large number of them, spent Sunday at the Jim Ferguson farm gathering the feed crop for Mrs. Ferguson.

They took their dinners and enjoyed the day while doing a splendid service for one who is deserving. It now appears that Tucumcari will fast outgrow the present depot and rnilroad facilities. The boom Is now on so there is nothing to do but make the best of the present situation. The railroads will wake-up some of these days anil perhaps build a new depot. For Sale.

The ladies arc planning a big dinner and bazaar in December and would appreciate the patronage of all. IX C. Green, of Logan, was in Tucumcari this week on business. He had 100 acres listed with a local exchange and expected to take it off the market but it had been sold for $5.00 an acre and the parties were awaiting the certificate of title, so it was up to him to close the deal. The Harris Cafe is a new eating place in Tucumcari.

The new proprietors come highly recommended and expect to keep a first-class place. 3t A number were proving up on their land this week before the local Lund office. They are getting ready for the oil flurry. Those who can should go and do likewise. Get your land so you can lease it or sell it. It will pay you to prove up now, Come in and let the News make out your papers.

If you don't believe the report this week in regard to the McGee well you can hear anything you would like. Tho street reports run up to 500-burrel oil well, and some say there is threa million cubic feet of gas, but the drill is working and those operating same don't mind a little gas like that. Call at this office. The Haas Mup have two men working on township maps, scale three inches to one mile, which shows the land and lease owners up to date. These maps will he eighteen inches square and put up in loose-leaf book form and can be had either single or In quantities at otic dollar per township. Haas Wright are hooking orders for these maps now and will commence delivering in about ten days, J. II.

Shepherd of Clovls will preach nt the Christian church next Sunday, October 19. The singers arc urged to be present at choir Friday evening at 8 o'clock ut the church. Miss Irmu Dietxman, who has been visiting her friend, Miss Nellie Ilonds at Quay, returned home Monday. She reports a very good time owing to the hospitality of the Quay people. On account of shortage' of help the Vorenborg Hotel was forced to close Its dining room.

The guests of the hotel are dining at the restaurants and at private boarding houses. It is said Mr. Vorcnberg expects to put in temporary partitions and use the during room for sleeping compartments. Every hotel in town is doing a rushing business. It Is reported here thnt the Southwestern Tularosa Hnsin Oil Refining Co.

W. Haight, manager of the Canadian Valley Exchange at Tucumcari, was in the city today accompanied by A. L. Zinn former deputy clerk of the Federnl coourt here. Mr.

Haight considers the oil development of eastern New Mexico very satisfactory r.o far. The McCiee well is setting casing at 12,000 feet. The Endcc rig is nearly completed and will spud in during the next two weeks. Numerous oil scouts representing big eastern ami central states oil companies are on the ground all the time watching developments and picking up land. Mr.

Haight's exchange deals in leases in New Mexico and adjoining states but does not list stocks. Santa Fe Record. Mr. Ray Dawson had very bad accident the other day the horse threw him in the fence and cut his arm very badly. Mr. antl Mrs. Johnnie Caton are the proud parents of a big baby girl.

Miss Vester McDonuld is very ill at present. L. I. Shelby has purchased a John Deer row binder. Mr.

W. G. Harmon and son have purchased a new Ford truck and the son, Geo. W. Harmon, has gone to Tucumcari after it.

The farmers are very busy at present hauling wheat to Tucumcari. Mr. Harmon went to Tucumcari Thursday to send Mrs. Harmon money to come home on. It is thought she will be home in two weeks.

Miss Hazel Voyles thinks she is some bronc rider but the Plain folks don't think so after she couldn't sit on Will Hanmons old blind horse. Mrs. Irene Gragson has returned home from a visit Texas. Jesse and Wilmer Harmon got a big buggy loatl of water melons at Mit Rushes. Messrs.

"The Department of Agriculture has allotetl to me for New Mexico large number of vegetable and smaller number of flower seeds which I will be pleased to send to those who request me that they desire same.
