I noticed that several prominent citizens had protested against the removal of the postmaster I took this matter up with the post office department personally and requested that they make a public explanation as to why' they had taken this appar ently severe action 'over what seemed to be a viola The post office department stat ed that the inspection "service had conducted' an investigation and found that the March of Dimes mail had been handled improperly The said that complaint was made by the organ ization (March of Dimes) In view of the circumstances surrounding the case the department was pre cluded from taking any 'action oth er than ordering the removal of the postmaster at Sen Knowland stated that be cause of the firm position taken by the Post Office Department he and Sen Thomas Kuchel were recommending the appointment of Mr Cummings as acting postmas ter Mr Rous then appealed to the Civil Service Commission?
