opens today is a Vitaphone production with talking sequenees interspersed' with the more familiar printed captions May McAvoy and Conrad Nagel the two most promising of the talking stfirs to date are featured in the cast Other principals are Mack Swain Charles Germ Hugh Herbert Ituth Cherring ton and Emil Chantard Scene of action in "Caught in the Fog" is aboard a millionaire's yacht off the Florida Coast Miss MeAvoy is cast as an amnteur crook who breaks into the millionaire's houseboat to steal the pearls of its mistress am becomes involved in a thrilling tangle of mystery and romance Vitaphone specialties and FoxMovietone News will supplement the One of the Vitaphone numbers will be a hnmerous skit "In the Park" featuring the team of Brown and Whitaker Ruth Taylor the blond in the screen version of "Gentlemen Prefer Blonds" gets her second screen- a signment of importance in "Just Mar- tied" which will begin a three-day en- gagement at the Palace Thursday 1 In li stupendous production "Wings" showing this week at the I Worth the public is given a view of warfare seldom shown before Featuring the World War with its harrowing scenes the Damon and Pythias-like love of two boys brightens its entirety and forces the sadness out of the mind The rattle of machine guns the whirling drone of airplanes and the screaming whistle of the stricken planes as they twist and fly on their swift fall to destruction bring to the audience a realism that would be lacking without the "sound" production and brings the magnitude of the presentation more fully to the Mind It is a mighty spectacle with planes darting through and above and below the fleecy clouds spraying bullets that bring down enemy ships and keep the audience on tip toe with its thrills and suspense The spectators will realize more fully the part of aviation in warfare after viewing this picture although other methods of fighting are in evidence Charles Rogers and Richard Arlen share honors as stars with Clara Row as the feminine lead While the picture is rather long it holds the interest Romance permeates the plot with both boys in love with the same girl and with a girl who neither considers willing to lose her good name to save from disgrace the man site loves An attraction the picture possesses other than its plot and excellent acting is the fact that it was filmed in Texas in pictnresque San Antonio with William Wellman an ace in the World War directing the production "Wings" probably will be as much of a success with its synchronized music and sound effects as it was during its year's run on Broadway and those who desire to see and hear a realistic story of war should not miss it FOY 411SaiMIM111102 I A beautiful love story as perfect in i presentation as the delicately bold strokes of a fine etching is the ma I terial of which "Street Angel" Frank IBorzages ee directorial assign ment with Janet Gaynor and Charles i Farrell as co-stars is made The film relegates vaudeville to the 74-conti milk for the current week at the Majes'46 In facais the vaudeville I is pruned tom the usual five to three acts in order to allow for the lengthy i feature picture With a Gaynor and Charles Farrel 4 I are all there" as to acting ability ti fact they thoroughly demonstrated in "Seventh Heaven" their first joint of1 fering There will be persons who will find a similarity in plot between 4 "Seventh heaven" and "t-4treet Angel The Neopolitan atmosphere created i for the latter adds ranch tn the attractiveness of the story which is in i its last analysis a rather simple affair almost totally lacking in suspense i 4 Photographic effects and the touches '4 that distinguish between excellence and i mediocrity are other points in the suei eess of the production James Coughlin in "The Rest Cure" is the feature attraction on the vaudeville bill Coughlin is aided by a corn pany in putting on a humerous kit i revolving around the efforts to keep a 4 dangerously sick that Western Electric has submitted offer to purchase the entire picture business of Warner Brothers Already monopolizing the wiring of theaters for talking pictures and having given Warner Brothers a
