Church cemetery, KUCERA ROZANEK CHAPEL, Valparaiso Hickman A swimming program for students in the Norris School District could become a reality as a result of a petition drive.

More than 250 registered voters in the district have signed a petition asking the board to call a special bond election for a pool "to serve the school curriculum and the recreational needs of the residents of the The district comprises a large area of southeast Lancaster County. The signatures on the petition represent 107o of those who voted in the last general election a sufficient number to date an election, by state law. Donna Rudolph of Hickman, one of the leaders of the drive, said many parents want a pool at the school as an alternative to contact sports such as basketball and football. The petition specifies that the election be held only if the school board is able to obtain a federal grant for the bulk of the cost. No cost estimates are included in the petition.

It will be presented to the school board Thursday evening at its 7:30 p.m. meeting at the school. Malone Center banquet to feature Roger Sayers FMans have been completed for the 46th Annual Malone Community Center banquet, to be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Legionnaire Club in Lincoln. Roger Sayers, manager of manpower planning and employment for Union Pacific in Omaha, will be the guest speaker at the 6:30 p.m.

banquet. Sayers has been appointed to the National Association of Inter-Collegiate Athletics Hall of Fame for his track achievements at the University of Nebraska- Omaha. and is a brother of former Chicago Bear football star dale Sayers. Sayers has been active in community and professional activities in Omaha, according to Malone Center officials. Norris Superintendent Dennis Nosal said Monday that the board has never actually voted on the swimming pool issue.

Some board members suggested including a pool in a bond election last spring, but the board rejected the idea out of fear it would defeat the entire bond proposal, Nosal said. The recent bonds totalling $1.15 million are for classrooms and gymnasium space. The village board of Hickman has been considering building a city swimming pool, but has postponed any action on this until the school pool issue has been settled. Waverly business would soar with airport, council advised Waverly A small airport could give economic wings to this community of 1,800 people, the Waverly City Council was told Monday. Jeff Gallup, president of Owl Aviation, which operates Arrow Airport in Lincoln, told the council members that a city-owned airport would bring a wealth of business and industry to the town, six miles east of Lincoln. An initial investment of about $100,000 could provide an airfield that would handle everything up through business he said. The ideal location for a new airport in Lancaster County would be just west of Waverly in the level flood plain north of Interstate-80, he said.

The city of Lincoln may close Arrow Airport within five years because it is in the Expansion wanted Atlanta (AP) Coca-Cola Co. said It is attempting to gain marketing access to the Arab world, the Soviet Union and China. proposed Lagoon Park being created by Lincoln's sanitary landfill. But even if Arrow does not close, the added competition would be healthful, Gallup said. Other than Lincoln Municipal Airport which some pilots say is already overcrowded the closest airports are at Beatrice and Wahoo.

Lincoln is considering a site in southeast Lancaster County, near Hickman, for another airport airport, (iallup said. Waverly would have obvious advantages over Hickman because of better rail connections for industry and Its proximity to Lincoln business cneters, he said. The council appointed a committee to study the feasibility of the idea, comprising people both in and outside of Waverly. Chain Link I I i ked wood'Cedar Frtf bliiMtts Pli. 467-2511'! SHARP BROS.
