Miss Helen M. Prescott, of Atlanta, recently honored our town with a visit. Miss Prescott has recently returned from Europe, where she has been hunting old records concerning the family of Blounts of North Carolina. She was a guest of Mr. and Mrs.

Harry Cawthorue, to whom is related. She is a lady of extraordinary ability and attraction, and we hope she will again favor with her presence. The county commissioners have, been instructed by the corporation commission that it is not lawful for taxes to given in before the register of deeds, and that persons who fail to give in the proper time to list takers should be double taxed. The commissioners have no authority this matter, and takes must given in at the proper time.

Dr. L. J. Picot returned home yesterday from Raleigh, where he had been to attend a meeting of the executive committee of the Central Hospital. Miss Cora Pulliam, of Lees-burg, is visiting Miss Sarah Myrick.

Misses Myrick and Pulliam had the pleasure of having Miss Lucy Webb with them Tuesday and Wednesday. Mr. Roger Lewis leaves today for the University of Chicago where he will take a special course in English during the next few months. He is studi ous, and will no doubt attain a high standard there. Success to you Roger, and may your days be pleasant and profitable.

Her many friends regret to know that Miss Mary Beckham is not well.
