huge skyscraper in Wacker Drive as the new home of opera the Chicago Civic Opera Company opened its seventh season and the eighteenth season of a resident company here by presenting "Carmen" Musically it was one of the most memorable evenings in the history of the old auditorium and there was little of regent to be found in the first night audience composed mostly of the socially prominent of the city and its suburbs The opening of opera and the opening of the Winter social season are synonymous here The boxes were a glittering display of costly jewels and stunning blossomed there and on the
