E. Harper has lately sold to a New York stamp collector a "Lenoir Local" postage stamp for $50. We print here with a pic-lure of the stamp. The stamp and envelope. Jfor the stamp is not valuable if detatched from the envelope.

was given by a Salisbury ladv. to whom it belonged, to the ladies composing the committee of the Lenoir Presbyterian church to collect funds to build a Manse and the $50 has been added to that fund. The history of the Lenoir stamp has been fully printed in the In 1S61, in the interregnum, whrn the United States government had no control in North Carolina and before the Confederate States had provided postage stamps, Majr Harper, who was deputy Postmaster of Lenoir, carved with h. pocket knife the die for the st.mp and printed a supply tor bi other. If you receive! letters from Lenoir in iS6t they probably had this stamp on them.

A few years ago the demand fr these stamps set in and a half dozen or so were sold for The price gradually increased to 5.20. At last it was found that the one owned by Majr Harper was the only one ottered for sale and it brought $50. fsju-tr A ar.1. Insltad of kicking hogs he was kicking the glass out of the window and has since been nursing a badly wounded foot. As announced last week, the Patton School will give an enter tainment at the Town Hall rriday night, May 19th, consisting of dialogues, speeches and tableaux. The entertainments at the close of this scnool are always well attended and much enjoyed, and we bespeak for them a full house and their usual success on to-morrow night. The Admission is 25 cents. Walter Evans met with quite an accident last week.

He and Joe Tull were out in the yard playing with a gun, when the gun went off and Walter was shot in me leg. i nrst it was feared that he was very badly hurt, but it proved to be nothing serious, and we are glad to say that he is getting cn nicely and will soon be able to be out again. Mr. Bush, the Hospital gard ener, picked nearly four bushels of fine strawberries one day last week. His plants are early Havi-land, Michaels and Lady Rusks.

The berries are of fine flavor and in size are something immense, a sample from the patch weighing 1 ounces. The crop was injured by the late frosts, but the yield will be about forty bushels for the season.
