Alberta Lowdermilk, the Catawba river fisherman, who is now seventv three years of age, has a Sally Michael pipe, which he has used every dav for the last twenty-eight years. The clay from which Sally Michael made her pipes is light and porous, and looks very much like meerschaum.

Unlike meerschaum, it can be burned out whenerver desired without injury. The pipes made from the clay are very porous and readily absorb the nicotine. They are not easily broken, and there are a great many of the pipes in this county which have been in constant use for many yeas. The fame of the Sally Michael pipe has become so extensive that many counterfeits have been attempted, but the genuine article is the best clay pipe made in the United States. At the meeting of the County Commissioners last Monday only Messrs.

Erwin and Nantz were present, Mr. Connelly being detained at home by a severe illness. 44.4. 44.4 .41 -4, 44.. 4 t-4 .4, 41 .4 4ti 1 44H4i 4.
