Ely United Presto DALLAS Oet Baylor Bears inaugurated the annual State Fair program of football here Saturday afternoon by taking a slow game from the Trinity University eleven of Waxahachie 37 to The game was a weird exhibition of high school football Both teams were unusually light for university elevens and put up a very ordinary brand of football before a small crowd composed mostly cf students of the two schools The Bears started with a rush receiving the kick-off They began a march down the field which was halted when Theron Fouts captain and fullback sustained a torn shoulder ligament which put him out of the game Short was substituted but the loss of Fouts the veteran backfield general seemed to demoralize the Baptists badly A forward pass netted the first score of the game Roach passed twenty yards to Thompson -who carried over the Trinity goal Crosslin kicked goal Score: Baylor 7 Trinity The Trinity team came back strong Ferguson returned the kick-off twenty yards Two forward passes in quick -cession were incouiplete but third Ferguson to Fincher 'gained thirty-five yards for Trinity Another forward pass netted fifteen more and Trinity lost her best chance to score when Ferguson attempted to pass across the Baylor goal line which was incomplete Baylor scored another touchdown and a field goal in the second quarter and piled up twci more touchdowns in third Stagg had whipped his Maroon warriors into some kind of shape for Indiana today and Chicago hung up a 22 to 0 victory That was comforting to Maroon supporters after the drubbing that Carleton handed Stagg's pride last Saturday but did not prove anything conclusive in regard to the conference championship The Indiana line was woefully weak and Stagg's forwards tore the line to pieces in almost every line play There must be great improvement before the Maroons can battle on even terms with Minnesota Wisconsin and Illinois The strong Colgate team from the East sent Illinois down to a 15 to 3 defeat Illinois only scored via the toe route While this game has no bearing on the conference champion it shows that Illinois is not nearly as strong as last year In the northern end of the route the expected happened when Wisconsin beat South Dakota 28 to 3 and' Minnesota administered a 47 to 7 defeat to North Dakota's huskies Ohio State was in action but her defeat of Oberlin was regarded as having little bearing on the conference championship as Oberlin's teams have been feeble in the past few years Only the immensity of her 128 score was astonishing Michigan in spite of Yost's bear wails had little trouble of disposing of the Mount Unior team 26 to The big test for Michigan will come next week when she meets the Mich- I igan Aggics who are always primed for this game Missouri
