by the Haskell Indians from Lawrence Kan in a well-played game of football at Morris Park Friday afternoon 10 to 0 The defeat came as a hard blow to warriors who fought gallantly from whistle to whistle in an effort to turn the onslaught into a Texas victory A fluke gave the Indians their only touchdown A legitimate goal from placement In the second period by the Indians should have ended the scoring but later in the same quarter an A back missed a signal The ball was tossed where this back should have been but An Indian lineman with the agility of a cat pounced upon the oval and with the YORK Oct 24 Harvard without its marvelous Brickley seems due for a beating when it tackles the powerful Michigan team that Up" Yost has assembled and which he will send against the Crimson wrar-riors in Cambridge next Saturday One of the most regrettable features of the year from the sporting viewpoint is the fact that Brickley has been forced out of the Harvard line-up that he will spend next Saturday in the hospital recuperating from an opera tion when his services are so badly needed by his team With Brickley in the line-up the game promised to be a thriller it promised to be one of the greatest battles in football history But with Brickley hors de combat only a few of the stanchest Harvard supporters feel that the Crimson will triumph over the Maize and Blue 5 The Harvard team was built around Brickley The great fullback was the main cog in the Harvard machine With that cog removed the machine seems jninus its power and its tremendous drive To Brickley more than anyone else is due the credit for Har great showing during the past three years boot beat Yale and Princeton last year and it was figured that boot might re peat against Michigan Depend on Brickley The Harvard team during the past three seasons has not been drilled to make touchdowns against its strongest foes It been drilled to smash through the lines and smash and 'smash again until it has carried the ball over the line Its main drilling has been to get the ball to within twenty or thirty yards of the rival line and to leave the rest to Brickley and his boot Rarely has the Harvard team attempted to carry the ball over the line of its powerful foes since Brickley joined the squad Coach Haughton probably figured there any use in taking a chance on having his men battered in a fierce fight in the shadows of the goal posts when he had toe to lead Harvard to an has a municipal That city is Paris and Paris has received untold favorable advertisement through this institution Beaumont has established a municipal abattoir and is about ready for operation Wichita Falls Austin San Antonio and other cities are planning their municipal abattoirs chief advantage of the municipal abattoir of course is in the guarantee of healthy meat to the consumers of the city A secondary advantage is in the saving of many byproducts- With an abattbir operated like those in other cities the butchers could keep their meats on cold storage at the city plant and draw on theif supply as needed It would be cheaper and more convenient for the butcher and would guarantee safer storage to the consumer A small fee is charged by the city for the storage States government inspectors are on duty at the packing houses If Uncle Sam finds it necessary to inspect meats shipped all over the country why shouldn't Fort Worth see the necessity of inspecting meats killed and sold right here in the citv "As it is Eort Worth has small plants where its meat is slaughtered With a municipal abattoir and a sound inspection system it would be impossible to put unhealthy meat on sale" Dr Yates state pure food and drug Inspector Johnson and Mrs L- Darwin inspectors of the state department and Gylaz have been surprised by the improved conditions they have found in Fort Worth The party arrived in Fort Worth Friday morning not quite sure but what complaints would have to be filed against a few obstreperous dealers who have failed to comply with the state pure food regulations Dr Yates was pleased Saturday however with the results of the tour so far He said he had found to Make Team Toe for Points easier and less dangerous way to victory absence from the Harvard line-up leaves Harvard without a real drop-kicker Mahan has some skill in that line So has Hardwick But neither has more than ordinary Drilling for Touchdowns Haughton now is face to face with the task of drilling the-Harvard team into becoming a touchdown machine He realizes that he must school it not only to carry the ball to the twenty or thirty-yard line but then carry it over the line He has no Brickley now to forestall a bitter battle within the ten-yard line The task that he faces in the limited time that he has is a huge one Haughton may succeed Harvard may give Michigan a beating when they meet next Saturday This is the year when all the is being upset But if Harvard wins it will be a surprise and a big one because Harvard will be pitted against a powerful eleven The Michigan team of 1914 is a team that its every foe must respect and fear It cluttered up with all-star men It given to individual playing but the team is perfect in its machine work It is fast and it surely can fight It is equally powerful on defense and offense Yost Schooling Team Yost has schooled nis men as he never schooled a team before The greatest ambition of his life has been to beat Harvard The opportunity lies before him and he means to grasp iu He is drilling his men to use an alternating attack on Harvard a mixture of old football with the new' And Yost too has taught his men some tricks that only the wonderful brain of Yost can figure out tricks intended to amaze the spectators and sweep Harvard off its feet too bad for the sake of the game that Brickley lie able to play A wonderful and thrilling gridiron contest was in prospect with both teams sending their full strength into battle a battle that would not permit alibis such as are likely to come from Harvard and with justification if Harvard is beaten grocers and butchers more willing than ever to up" a protection against flies and meddling animals and to clean their establishments The state officials are co-operating with the city health board in the framing of a city pure food ordinance that will be a model for other cities It will embody the best of regulations from ordinances of other cities over the country The ordinance willbe ready to lay before the city commission within a few days JURY DISAGREES Trial of Jack Thompson for Murder of John Austin College and Baylor University battled to a scoreless tie here Friday afternoon The Sherman collegians clearly outplayed their Waco opponents in every period with the exception of the second Their gains were principally the result of line plunges Not until the final quarter did the locals attempt any open play In the third quarter Austin College worked the ball to Baylor's two-yard line only to be held by downs In the final quarter both sides resorted almost entirely to forward passes in an attempt to score The lineup: Austin College Barrett left end Livingston left tackle Sowell
