Academy of -Arlington won from Fort Worth University Thanksgiving afternoon in a well played football game the final score being 5 to The Soldiers had a' great advantage in weight and the wet and slippery condition of the field made this advantage tell The game was closely contested and proved very enjoyable to the600 spectators Morgan Lloyd and Captain Nies of the Varsity and Lamoniea and Ross of Carlisle were the stars of the game this quartet giving a splendid exhibition of the great college game None of the players were forced to retire from the game by injuries Game in Detail 'Varsity won the toss and chose the west goal giving Carlisle the ball Ross for the Soldiers kickda thirty yards to Slawson who ran the ball back five yards An attempt at a forward pasa failed and 'Varsity was penalized fifteen yards the ball the ground before being handled by a Fort Worth player On the next line-up Borden kicked twenty-five yards and when the Carlisle back fumbled the ball Horn fell on the oval- like a ton of brick Captain Nies failed to gain around right end but immediately took fit-teen yards on a cleverly executed forward pass to Rouen Another forward pass on the next line-up gained ty-five yards for 'Varsity and brought the ball to Carlisle's ten-yard line With a touchdown in sight the forward pass failed to work and 'Varsity waa again penalized fifteen yards This penalty probably cost Fort Worth a touchdown as that team was carrying the Soldiers off theie feet by whirlwind playing Carlisle Holds On an exchange of punts Lloyd secured the ball and the march towards the Soldiers' goal was again taken up Nies gained a yard around right end and I Slawson advanced the ball eight and one-half yards around the Same end Borden hit the line for the necessary inches needed to retain the ball The forward pass Nies to Borden failed to -gain Lloyd went thru tackle for six yards and I Slawson hit the same place for just a shade less than the needed four yards and it was Carlisle's ball on downs Neece buCked the line for a one-yard gain and Carlisle kicked to mid field -Nies for 'Varsity fumbled but Lloyd recovered the ball Fort Worth again got -the forward pass into working order Borden advancing the ball twelve yards and Lloyd fifteen on successive plays the parsing of Nies being perfect The captain hit the line for a yard and gained five more on a quarterback run around right end only to be penalized by Referee Delaney for failure to keep without the five-yard limit This decision caused much dissatisfaction The official ruled that Nies had missed the distance by four inches Slawson failed to gain Ulm left tackle and Borden tried a goal from placement The kick was low and Quarterback Carlisle got the ball before it crossed the line Ross hit the line for five yards A fumble on the next scrimmage was saved by Poland who followed up his good work with a five-yard gain thru left tackle Carlisle kicked to Ward On 'Varsity's twenty-yard line Borden punted to midfield and Crockett fell on the ball after a fumble by a Soldier Lloyd gained five yards thru the line and Borden gained a scant half yard Carlisle's line held and the ball went over 'Varsity Gets Bali The Soldiers kept the ball but a moment After a' four-yard gain by Neece Poland fumbled and Captain Nies fell on the ball He then went thru right tackle for four yards and executed a neat forward pass to Borden a twenty-five-yard gain resulting Loyd and Borden both hit the line for slight gains and on the third down Borden tried for a goal from placement His effort was poor and the ball was Carlisle's on their twentyfive-yard line Lamonica made a neat end run for a ten-yard advance and Ross followed with a five-yard gain around the same end A forward pass and a quarterback kick both failed of gain and lisle punted to Ward on 'Varsity's Is Con0 Relieve Nasal Catarrh allay inflanitne4 tion soothe and heal the mucous membrane sweeten and purify the breath Best right tackle in place of Barclay who retired This was the only change in the line-up of' the entire game Mistrot ran the ball back sixteen yards and repeated ulth an end run of twenty yards behind splendid interference A forward pass to hamonica netted twenty-five yards bringing the ball to 'Varsity's forty-yard line Neece hit the line for two yards but Carlisle was penalized five yards for offside play Honaker gained eight yards around end Ross fumbled on the next play and Jaenke secured the ball for 'Varsity in midfield A fifteen-yard penalty for failure of the forward pass was assessed against 'Varsity and Borden kicked to Carlisle's thirty-five-yard line A forward pass Lamonica to Neece netted the Soldiers twenty yards and five successive line bucks by the three backs totaled seventeen more A forward pass to Lamonica gained twelve yards and brought the ball to 'Varsity's fifteen-yard line Two line bucks gained but four yards and Ross tried for a goal from placement The kick was blocked and 'Varsity had the ball A five-yard penalty for offside play was assessed against Fort Worth and Carlisle held the locals for downs altho strenuous protest was made against the ruling Only Touchdown With the ball on 'Varsity's ten-yard line Ross gained two yards thru center and Lamonica slipped around left end for the only touchdown of tha game Ross dropped the kickout and no try for goal was permissible Score Carlisle 5 'Varsity 'Varsity kicked off and an exchange of Punts aided by a ell executed forward pass brought the ball to Carlisles fifteen-yard line but the (Sewanee) football team crossed Vanderbilt's goal line in their annual game on Dudley field yesterday The men from the Moun-rain played steady heady ball but derbilt maintained her prestige and won 17 'to 12 The game was on a soft field which interfered with fast end plays and also with the forward pass The men were about evenly matched as to weight Frequently the visitors tore thru Vanb11ts line but the latter made good with end runs and twice used the forward pass successfully One of these was a most spectacular play in which Stone snapped the ball twenty-five Or thirty yards to Blake who passed it on to the fast Stone who was downed on the four-yard line and the ball was carried across Two of "Vanderbilt's touchdowns were made in the first half and the last half was replete with "Farmers" 6 Result of Austin Game Special to The Telegram AUSTIN Texas Nov University 11 Texas A College 6 That was the score of one of the hardest fought games ever played on Clark field And the crowd was record breaking for a game in Texas It Is estimated that at least 5500 people saw the fray It had been predicted that Texas' line would break and the college men overpower and the reverse occurred Texas' line was invincible while that of the college was torn to pieces Then too the Indian Kelly did not star the tacklers usually throwing him for a loss Time and again a fast Texas man would nearly get away but pulled down with a clear field on him Fred Ramsdell said to be the second fastest man in the United States played a fast game and his great runs brought the second touchdown But the stars of the game were the two Texas tackles Bob Ramsdell at left and Feldhake at right They made holes in the college line thru which wagons could have driven and the rnuchly heralded opposing tackles were mowed down without extra effort Jones and Caldwell at guards and Vickers at center were stone walls in fact yielding not ten yards during the entire game The field was heavy in places due to yesterday's heavy rains but in some rOrtIOTIS it was fast and Texas was able to show her speed thereon Unfortunately it seemed as tho Texas secured the ball more often in the muddy places The mud was regarded as an advantage to the heavy college team and a handicap to the light and fast Texas eleven On that theory the score would have been larger on a dry field in favor of Texas It was only by luck that Texas did not make a third touchdown in the second half losing the ball about eight yards from the coveted chalk mark It having passed on down The only department College excelled in was the punting This advantage kept the ball in Texas territory but was dangerous only once Or twice TO BUILD CITY PARK McKinney Bond Issue Carries in Election Tuesday special to The
