Politics DISCUSS WORK Many Attending Convention Back Stamping of All Letters COWBOY DINNER Representative of First Assistant Postmaster General Tells of Work The morning of the second day'S session of the convention of Texas Postmasters' Association in Fort Worth was taken up with routine business and discussions the one event of the morning being the appearance in the convention hall of Colonel Cecil A Lyon national republican committeeman for Texas The postmasters were in the midst of a discussion about back stamping letters when I Carter postmaster at Arlington got the floor and said he had a little matter to bring before the postmasters He read a paper which was in the formof a legal complaint filed against Colonel Lyon charging that he arrived in Fort Worth Tuesday and had failed to appear at the convention The complaint demanded that he be brought before the convention to explain himself and to tell whether or not he had been doing anything for the good of the people of Texas A humorous discussion followed and in the end a committee consisting of Doo le Jr Otis Bacon and Sloan was appointed to serve the summons on Colonel Lyon and bring him into the convention The Colonel Corralled When the committee returned with Colonel Lyon they were greeted with cheers and all business was suspended while Colonel Lyon made a few remarks As the representative of the administration attended a postmasters' convention tho often asked to do so because he did not want to turn such a gathering into a political meeting and he was afraid his presence might encourage such a condition He was cheered enthusiastically at the close of his speech Mr Barkley Presides When the convention met PresiJent Smith was absent and the sfssion was called to order by Vice President Lon Barkley The subject of back stamping of letters waS brought up for discussion the first remarks on the subject being made by Postmaster Seth strong of Houston who thought the use of the back stamp was the only
