Missouri 31, San Diego St. 7: Quarterback Phil Bradley fired two touchdown passes and running back James Wilder scored twice as the blitz-happy, 12th-ranked Tigers jN': fv Associated Press Rich Brooks called it "the most important" victory he has had in his four seasons as head coach at Oregon while a beaten Don James of Washington said he "never dreamed it would be like this." With quarterback Reggie Ogburn running for two touchdowns and passing for another Saturday, the visiting Ducks ambushed the 13th-ranked Huskies, 34-10, in a Pacific 10 Conference game. Oregon isn't eligible to go to the Rose Bowl and Washington at least before the upset was considered by many, including Brooks, favored to reach the Rose Bowl. "Obviously," James said, "we're not as good as people have been telling us we are. That's the danger when you start believing what people tell you." Despite the lopsided loss and Stanford's upset win at Oklahoma Saturday, Brooks would not budge from his position that the Huskies are the Rose Bowl favorites.

"I still feel Washington is a great team," he maintained. "I didn't see anything to change my mind today. But we played a helluva game on both sides of the ball. It's great to finally beat the Huskies." Ogburn accounted for 193 yards 121 passing and 72 rushing for the seven-point underdog Ducks, who improved to 2-1-1 all, 1-1 in conference. Washington dropped to 2-1 in its Pac 10 opener.

Oregon trailed 10-6 at halftime against a team that averaged more than 500 total yards in easy wins over Air Force and Northwestern. But the Ducks went ahead to stay at 13-10 on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Ogburn to Curtis Jackson the first time they had the ball in the second half. Oregon drove J59 yards in seven plays for its go-ahead score with Charlie Bisharat going 36 yards with a pitchout for the big play of the series. Ogburn overshadowed Husky quarterback Tom Flick, who entered the game as the nation's leading passer. Ogburn completed lO-of-16 and carried the ball 16 times.

"As long as you have people out in front blocking, you can almost do anything you want," said Redwine, a senior workhorse who carried the ball 34 times. "This game was good for us. It's going to boost our confidence. We just have to keep it up." Redwine's 1-yard run in the third period capped a 13-play, 74-yard drive that put the game out of reach for the llth-ranked host Nit-tany Lions, who suffered seven turnovers and had their quarterback sacked nine times for 89 yards in losses.

During that key drive, Quinn completed three passes for 30 yards. In all, he hit on 12-of-17 passes for 158 yards as Nebraska owned the second half. History (Continued from D-l) cause Ali met Holmes in Las Vegas in October, 1980, the world "was made safe for democracy." Or as a direct result of the All-Holmes fight, world agricultural production skyrocketed and disease was eradicated." I have an inkling that if any history is going to be made, it will be something along the lines of "biggest scam ever perpetrated." After all, there are thousands of folks who are going to pay as much as $500 to sit and watch a couple of aging boxers grapple for an hour. And there will be thousands, maybe millions more who will cough up upwards of $25 to watch all this via closed circuit TV. Because so many folks are so eager to lay out their cash, Ali and Holmes will pocket checks in the neighborhood of $9 and $3 million, respectively, for their little exhibition.

Maybe there is a little something historic in that, after all. But it better compares to the Brinks Holdup than the inven-' tion of the wheel. .11 Avail.
