in the calling of a $2000u0 bond issue for a new jail were elated Saturday night and are planning a campaign to carry the bond issue The success or the bond issue will mean that the present unsightly jail will be razed and a new one built on another site The demolition of the present jail will bring tile river bluff park plan closer to realization With the compietion of the magnificent new $459ouu Main street bridge the southern approach to tile viaduct will form a picturesque site for a park between the courthouse and the river No site has been selected yet for the jail in case the bond issue carries Women Will Campaign "July 19 is not far away" Mrs Mary Wright president of the City Federation of Womens Clubs said Saturday night and we will begin at once a campaign to carry the bond issue The club women Of Fort Worth are not experienced in politics but they realize that it is well to start any campaign early to insure its success At our next fleeting June 5 we shall make definite plans tor a vigorous campaign" George Kessler the man who Made Kansas City famous for its park system will be in Dallas the first week in June according to information received here and a movement has started to get Mr Kessler to come to Fort Worth then in the interest of the river bluff improvement This Constitutes the principal feature of the Fort Worth park plan mapped out by Mr Kessler for the first park board It included a modern viaduct such as now is being constructed removal of the jail from its present site and a terraced improvement of the south river bank Plans for Beautification A park spot at the present jail Bite with stone steps leading down to the bridge is included in this pan which also calls for a driveway about half way down the bank running west to a connection with Trinity Park and from there on along the river driveway recently purchased to Forest Park Figures already have been compiled in the park department showing that the total land that would be needed for this improvement is listed on the tax rolls at less than SIS0000 Consideration of the bluff improvement already has been considered by some members of the park board and one plan suggested has been the sale of Trinity Park with the exception of enough to continue the river drive Such a course however is said to he impossible I Burney former member of the park board says that it is his opinion that no park property can be sold This is on the ground that the land having once been dedicated to public use cannot be disposed of at least without a special act of the legislature or a charter change authorizing such a step It has been figured however that a bond issue for the bluff improvement could be issued and be retired from the present park levy without making any increase in taxation Park Chairman Grant who is opposed to purchase of any more park Property excepts the river bluff improvement from this feeling and is in favor of its acquisition and improvement "North Fort Worth certainly will roll up a nice tidy majority for the bond issue" Croarkin president of the North Part Worth Improvement Club said Saturday night "It is the biggest thing that has happened for our section of the city since the bridge bonds were voted We have been waiting and hoping just for a chance to get a vote on this proposition and the Improvement club will try to see that there's as many votes cast in the jail bond election as in the regular city election 'The removal of the present jail and the construction of a parked esplanade as an approach to the new North street viaduct will
