The graduation was a first for Dr. James B. Pugh, who took over as pchool superintendent this spring, and a last for Waldwick students. Waldwick, which has been sending its students to the school for the last several years, now has its own high school. Even the weatherman did his bit to make the occasion memorable for the 234-member Class of 1965, providing a break- in the most recent heat wave.

Early afternoon showers, which posed a threat to outdoor exercises, ended and the weather cleared in time for the ceremonies. File 4 Abreast Sunny skies and cool temperatures prevailed as the capped and gowned graduates, girls in white, and boys in green, filed four abreast onto the athletic field escorted by junior class marshals. The processional, Reeds Crowning Glory played by the high schools concert band, was followed by the national anthem and the invocation by the Rev. Jacob Hasper, pastor of the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church. Greetings were extended by, the class president, Peter Comstock, who later was announced as the recipient of the valedictorian award.

The power to think is ones most precious possession, student speaker Richard Slowes said in a talk entitled "This Above All, based upon a quotation from Shakespeare which continues to thine own self be true. He stressed the necessity for cultivating the power to make decisions, pointing out We have been spoon-fed, both at school and at home, the Pablum of ready-made decisions. Are You Ready? was the topic of Mary Ellen Pease, who re minded her fellow-students The world is in a state of turmoil whether good or bad, it must be faced. Desire to Be Different The student today has the intense desire to be different first through clothes and customs and later through such things as atheism or unsuccessful causes, Richard Slowes, said in his 'talk on Wagon Individualism, Some causes are arbitrarily picked and then beliefs are shaped to fit and justify them, he said, as he cited incidents of the present-day revolution on campus. The class gift, contracts and landscape plans for ten trees of different varieties to be planted on the school grounds, was presented to Assistant Principal Arthur H.
