policemen in a hold-over cell in the city jail Earlier that night Delaine Brewer and Mehan had been stopped while driving on Camp Bowie Boulevard and Brewer was arrested and placed in jail for having a defective tail light on his car The alleged beating occurred after Brewer had been released on bond which was paid by Alton Brewer A jailer allegedly involved in the beating stated in a report that Delaine Brewer was attempting to escape and that both Brewers and Mehan had been disorderly in the jail The three were placed in jail for disorderly conduct Mehan said he was not beaten but six or seven" policemen beating the Brewer brothers in the holdover cell Mehan and Alton Brewer took polygraph examinations Delaine Brewer has been hospitalized since the incident though not for injuries
