NURSING HOME OPENS -X" -x- -X- -X- -X- -X- READY FOR THE FIRST PATIENTS Everybody Is Welcome! Set "Open House''Saturday And Sunday; First Patients Monday This Is an artist's conception of Hickory Grove Manor, tlie new nursing liome wliich will open at the west edge of Vernon next Monday, February 1. The privately financed home Is located a block west of Doctor's Park, south of Ashley Road, in an area of beautiful woodland. It Looks More Like Resort Motel: Hiclcory Grove Manor In Beautiful Setting In a beautiful setting of woods and wide lawns Hickoi-y Grove Manor looks more like a resort motel than a nursing home.

But, a nursing home it is, witli every comfort and convenience for the care of the sick. I-Iere is wliat tiie visitor to this $750,000 addition to the Mt. Vernon scene will see: An attractive approaching drive through a private park in a beautiful section of booming westem suburbs. The drive ends in a traffic circle in front of the main lounge of the manor which will be the home of 100 patients. Some will be bed patients, but many will be able to get about on their own and enjoy color television in the main lounge, to play games, visit and just plain in Uie large sun rooms.

-o- -o- When you open the front door air comes out, i-athcr than blowing in. That's because the entire building is pressurized. No cold or hot outside air blows In at any time. Each room has its own controls on the heating and (in summer) air cooling installation. Since many of the patients may be feeble, or uncertain of footing, there arc handrails on all of the coxTidor walls.

Plastic domes bring daylight into the corridors. There are emergency battery-powered lamps which tum on automatically when the power goes off. The halls are brightly painted and the dooi-s to the rooms arc in different colors, including pastel shades. -O- -0- There are rooms for one, two or four patients and they are alike in facilities. Each has its own private bathroom.

There are hand rails at the toilets and bathtubs. In the private rooms there is even an alarm button near tlie toilet stool by which a stricken patient could summon help. Each bed has a call button connecting to the nurse's station at the head of the corridor. Above each bed, also, is a speaker and microphone by which the nurse from her station can talk with tlic patient. She can use this same microphone to listen during the night and tlius check up on his condition.

There are telephone jacks in each room and television antenna connections. A patient can furnish his own television or rent one from the manor. -O- -0- -o- F'urniture is more like that at home tinan in a hospital. Tables, chairs, sandwich and soft di-ink bars are to be placed in each sun room. There games will be organized and patients will visit.

In good weather, patients will be able to walk on the grounds. There is a large fireplace which as a I 'oom divider between the main lounge and the dining hall. Behind the dining hall there is a kitchen as large as an ordinary five-room home, with scullery and refrigerated storage room. It is already stocked with food and dishes to start serving patients Monday. The hot water tank which sei-ves to heat the two wings and center section is as large as boilers used for schools and court houses.

Vernon, Jefferson county and southern Illinois to inspect it tomorrow and Sunday," said Jack Cox, administrator. Opens Monday The new nursing home will accept its first patients next Monday morning. Construction of the privately financed nursing home began on Febi-uary 12, than a year ago.

Located in a pretty six and one-half acre wooded area a block west of Doctor's Pai-k, it is one of the finest nursing homes in Illinois. Total cost of the project- land, building, furnishings and announced as three quarters of a million dollars. Homey Atmosphere The new home, designed especially for the comfort, pleasant living and well being of its occupants, has ten large private rooms, 29 semi-private rooms and eight four-bed rooms. Each room has its own separate bath and its own temperature control, winter and summer. There is a thei-mostat in room and each guest regulate it for his own comfort.

You Are Invited! Here Are Open House Hours Everybody is invited to attend "open house" at Hickory Grove Manor, Mt. Vernon's new nursing home, this Saturday and Sunday. The entire nursing home will be open for public inspection at these times: Saturday, Jan. 30 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 31 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The nursing home, which is modern and delu.xe in every respect, is of conci-ete block and brick veneer firepj'oof construction. Tliere is a homey, airy at- mosphei-e throughout the home, with skylights in the corridors, living and dining rooms and the game rooms.

Administrator Cox said that occupants will be encouraged to add to the homey atmophere by putting their own favorite pictures on the walls and bringing their own favorite chair, if they wish. Dining Area Other features designed for the pleasui-e of the occupants is a large centrally located living room area with huge fireplace which serves as a divider for the attractive dining area and kitchen.
