Steve Glaum hurled six strong innings of Tuesday's seven inning affair and picked up his third win of the season. The freshman from Aptos High scattered five hits while walking only one batter and striking out five. Glaum also had a big day at the plate, collecting four hits and driving in four runs. Red hot Dave Stewart boosted his conference batting average well over the .400 mark with a 3-for-4 performance. The Hawk third sacker is currently on an 11-game hitting streak and has rapped out 10 hits in his last 16 at bats.

The Seahawks tagged Menlo starter Jack Spidell for two iuns in the opening frame. Don San-ford grounded a base hit to center and scored on Stewart's line single up the middle. Stewart swiped second and moved to third on a passed ball before Dave Chapatte drew a two-out walk. He scored on a double steal. Stewart ignited a three run third inning rally with a ground rule double.

Menlo then walked the fifth was converted into another tally when the Seahawk shortstop stole second and galloped home on Stewart's two-out basehit. Aptos countered with Perry Miller on the mound and the Mariner righthander sailed until Dan Simpson broke the Pirate scoring ice with an unearned tally in the fourth for a closer 3-1 score. The Aptos downfall came in the frantic fifth when Miller gave up a walk and a double to relief winner Bob Bullock. Coach Paul Barrington brought in Bob Ivan for two more bases on balls and an error before Mike Costello took over after Harbor scored four unearned runs to take a 5-3 edge. With Simpson on third. Tom Beyers on second and Mark Tolaio on first and Bob McCann at the plate, Aptos quickly got out of the inning when first baseman 1 Mark Nipp got the triple play moving.

McCann lined to Nipp. he stepped on first ahead of Tolaio and tossed to Shaw at third who got Simpson napping for the final out. Aptos grew a bit closer on Nipp's fifth inning homer and that was the last time the Mariners got within scoring distance. power came in the form of a home run and before the afternoon was over Aptos had turned in a nifty triple play in the fifth inning. It wasn't the most picturesque games, by a longshot, and after seven innings of wild baseball had been completed Harbor staggered to gain a 5-4 victory.

Coach Claude Sharp has been unaccustomed to unspirited baseball of late but Tuesday's Pirate performance left the head mentor with his head swirling. "This had to be the worst display of baseball all season," Sharp said harshly after the game. Harbor won't be able to lie down and play dead if it plans to challenge first place Soquel for the Monterey Bay League Northern Division championship. As everyone knows, the division showdow is Friday at Soquel. Sharp started junior Jim Cavanah and three passed balls along with two singles shot By DAVE BROCKMANN Sentinel Assistant Sports Editor There was everything a baseball fan could ever ask for when title contending Harbor journeyed to Aptos Tuesday with the idea of blitzing the last place Mariners.
