assessment for starting up the Tarrant County Appraisal District until the district justifies its proposed $24 million budget item by item The district an outgrowth of the stxalled Peveto tax reform bill officially requested $404088 from Fort Worth Dec 18 City Manager Robert Herchert though has asked the district's executive director Nelson Eichman to clearly "identify each item of that is anticipated by the district in 1981 Herchert also stated in a letter to Eichman that Fort Worth is seriously concerned with the necessity practicality" of the city's $404088 assessed allocation Cited especially for study and possible argument is the $1331438 the district has budgeted for salaries Herchert told Eichman the amount is and unrealistice when this amount is compared to the schedule of staffing you have provided for our review" Not only does the city desire an itemized identification of each budget item but is also wants details for appraisal contracts Assistant City Manager Morris Matson the liaison administrator to the tax appraisal district said the request for more budget details does not indicate Fort Worth is planning to try withholding financing from the district central been fixed but are now faced with having the service turned off despite their repair efforts may lose next Friday (at the court hearing)" said Mayor Harold McCann Sunday night after exhausted workers finished patching the city-owned natural gas line "If we lose we've got a lot of poor people that are in a sad situat ion A lot of people on welfare can't afford to switch to propane" The city won a temporary reprieve Saturday when a state district judge delayed a Railroad Commission order that would have shut down natural gas service in this town of 1100 But McCann said back-breaking efforts by city council members and volunteer workers who manned tractors and dug ditches for six straight days to restore the service may be for naught if a judge upholds the RRC ruling at a hearing Friday The city's problems started last Friday when RRC officials called an emergency meeting and ordered the system shut down because of leaks McCann said service to 12 homes had been halted and another 200 homes were experiencing line is on test and holding" McCann said Sunday after volunteers worked into the night hours to restore the system RRC officials said a two-hour pressure test would be needed before the gas could be turned on "We have the kind of equipment but an oil company sent a man out with gauges and logs and he got right on it had tremendous response from our liesaidthecity applied two months ago to the Farmer's Home Administration for a loan to repair the system but that no word has been received about the status of the loan will call the FHA (today) to see what the status of that loan application he said He added that other avenues of financing are open to the city but that the length of time involved might force people in the city to sw itch over to propane or electricity before the lines could be repaired He said the RRC was asking the city to patch the old trouble-plagued line to RRC McCann said the RRC is unreasonable in its demands adding that he hoped the hearing would be decided in favor of the city in hopes that someone a little farther up the line might give us some he On leave Airman Scott Streater son of Mr and Mrs Harlan Streater of Haltom listening and 25 talking This can present a real challenge to most of us who like to talk So often we just wait for a pau-e in the conversation so that we can get in a few words of wisdom Too many times we never really hear what the other person is saying! Too many times we really don't een care! Try just for one day to listen to the people around your family your friends your business acquaintances You might be surprised at the things you will learn about the insight you will have into their thinking and feelings Even if what they are saying might seem to be unimportant to you it might well be very important to them Take time today to look them in the eye and really listen! God gave us eyes to see ears to hear and tongues to speak Let us use them wisely LUCAS FUNERAL HOME 517 Sylvania and 6450 Brentwood Stair Fort Worth 1321 Precinct Road Hurst 2000 College Grapevine Misses' Coats 4 '-L f' Aiy SHOP 10 AM TO 9 rM MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAVDOWNTOWN STORE OPEN 10 AM TO 6 PM Ridgmar Seminary South Tandy Center Downtown Northeast Mall Plymouth Park Irving Forum 303 Arlington 284-6511 i.
