Grover Cleveland was born at Caldwell, in Essex' County, N. March 18th, 1837. He was the son of Richard Falley Cleveland, a Presbyterian minister. His mother was Annie Neal, daughter of a Baltimore merchant. His advantages in early life were few, for the times of his youth were difficult, and even a minister's son could not clearly Bee the opportunities.

As a boy he worked as clerk in a store, aiding in the support of his family. Ha began to practice law at Buffalo in 1859, and in his profession he arose rapidly. He wae assistant district attorney for three years and in 1870 he was chosen sheriff of Essex county. Later he was elected mayor of Buffalo and during the first six months of his term saved tht city by vetoing what he believed to be extravagant appropriations. In 1882 he was elected governor of New York by a majoiity of 190,000.

In 1884 he was elected President of the United States, receiving 219 electoral votes, defeating Jas. G. Blaine. During his first term be was married to Miss Frances Folsom, of Buffalo, who brought social success and popularity to his administration. In 1888 Mr.

Cleveland was again nominated by the Democratic party for President, but was defeated by Gen. Harrison. In 1902 he was for the third time the nominee of the party for President, opposing Gen. Harrison, and was sleeted. His second administration added to his fame as a wise and able executive.

Mr. Cleveland is survived by his wife and four children, Esther, aged 14; Marion, aged 12; Richard, aged 10, and Frances Grover, aged 5 years. The body was interred at Princeton Friday afternoon.
