SEPTEMBER. 2S, ALItftf EVENING Dolls Remain Staple Toy For Little Girls at Wood River WOOD RIVER The vogtfe playthings for boys may change with the weather dr the intellectual climate, running the garnet from space ships torto guns, but it pretty well established here this week that dolls remain the staple toy for girls. The fact was brought out in A hobby show for Fourth and fifth graders at Wood River where dolls dominated the girls' section of the exhibit Boys placed'on display everything from minature mounted warriors to collectons of real army uniforms, but the girls, for the most part, showed dolls. Some doll collections were large, others small, but the average teemed to have been struck by Carol Commings, 10, a pupil, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Don- ald Cummings of E. Acton. Carol (has a collection of 20 dolls, sofflfe of which she bought, some were bought for her but the bulk jf them were acquired through a "Dolls of All Nations" give-away plan conducted by a large chain grocery firm. Topnotch dolls, dressed in the garb of foreign lands, were available with the'presentation of a coupon acquired through the purchase of certain volumes of groceries and this expedient saw the distribution of hundreds of dolls, many of which were shown in the hobby exhibit here. Like most girls who have managed to garner a considerable doll collection, Carol says she plans to hold onto hers evet after she becomes an adult.

Her parents are in the process of erecting a new home and her dolls, she says, are to be Program Set In Dial, 104 Annexation Issue! RIVER. 4 the final date for filing of objections to the proposed annexation to Wooc River of a large ffact of populated territory on the northeast side Alfon-Edwardsville Road doubt was expressed by attorn eys today that the issue ever would reach open court. George Perin, Alice Perin Thomas Settles and Lee Set ties, all residents of the district have filed, through Francis Manning, Wood River attorney an intention to object. The Only point at issue, attorneys say. Is whether or not those persons who signed the annexation petition and were purported to be 50 per cent of the property owners actually are property owners and do comprise the required 50 per cent. Once ownership has been established and it is found that the signatures oh petition are or are not those of 50 per cent of the property owners, the case is expected to be conceeded by one side or the other. If it should be found that the petition does not contain the required number of signatures of bona fide property owners, a second petition will have to be filed, Smith said today.

Doubt has been expressed that persons buying property under contract are considered property owners under the law, and there may be names of some of these on the petition. Not involved in the projected objection to the annexation, but among the more vocal objectors are the owners of three taverns and one package liquor store in the district which contains some of the more notorious violators of the county tavern closing laws. Tavern closing laws are rigidly enforced within the city of Wood River. Of minor concern is the buying of an additional liquor license from the city of Wood River. However, Wood River's present high tavern license fee might be reduced if fees were available from four additional sources, one person close to the city administration said this morning.
