together Mr Henderson preceded her in death on July 17 2004 Through her life of dedication to her family her church and the community she touched the lives of many in a meaningful way She was an avid golfer and enjoyed many golfing days with her husband and the Golf Association at the Cabarrus Country Club For many years she enjoyed a bridge club with friends of longstanding She is survived by her sisters Catherine Long of Greensboro NC Elizabeth Mower of Murrells Inlet SC and Sarah Suiter of Charlotte NC her brothers Richard Liles and his wife Betty of Virginia Beach VA George Liles and his wife Jane of Concord NC and Jack Liles and his wife Dickie of Savannah GA She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday in from Prosperity High School and also Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Greer First Baptist Church of Lancaster charter member of Convenant Baptist Church taught Sunday School for many years was the choir and adult handbell choir director She was a public school teacher in Greer and taught piano for over sixty years She was the proprietor of the Corner Book Store which she operated out of her home selling religious books and materials She also did a weekly radio Bible Study with Dr Robert Cuttino and organized a Friday morning prayer group at Convenant Baptist Church She was active in two Lancaster Music Clubs the Lancaster Arts Council the South Carolina Piano Guild and the Federation of Music Clubs She loved gardening and was a btble scholar Survivors include her sons Robert Murray Hughes III and his wife Martha of Pickens and David Hughes and his wife Karol of Columbia daughters Betty Griffin and her husband Darrell Tacoma WA Kitty Hughes of Charlotte NC and Harriet Hughes and her husband John Fellman of Moscow Idaho a sister-in-law Lura Pitts Hughes of Atlanta GA grandchildren Robert Murray adjustment led to a lifelong career of training most recently with City Chevrolet Mr Hayes once turned down a job to sing as a bass in the Metrolina Opera in New York so that he could be with his family In the he was a sergeant with the Charlotte Police Reserve in his spare time and also sang for the Charlotte Choral Society parents Luther Hayes Sr and Nellie Brown Hayes his sister Emma Hayes entrusted Ross Paul Yockey Mr Yockcy 64 formerly of Charlotte an award-winning author television producer and filmmaker died April 13 2008 in Seattle Washington after a two-year battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) Ross was born in New Orleans and earned his BA in English from Loyola University before venturing to New York City to begin a long and successful career in newspaper and television news His documentary on New York mistreatment of the mentally handicapped won more Emmys than any other New York television program in 1973 and became instrumental in the mainstreaming movement of the 1970s His bicentennial film for the Lutheran Church in America won a bronze medal at the New York International Film Festival Fie later moved to Charlotte NC where he earned an MFA from Queens University In 2003 Ross moved to Seattle WA where he and his daughter Beth formed Yockey Communication and began writing biographical and historical books for companies and business leaders Ross was the author of twenty-one published books including biographies of musical superstars Zubin Mehta and Andre Previn (with Martin Bookspan) three novels about the iconic New Kids on the Block MeColl: The Man With Money and many others In the United States been published by Abecedary Doubleday Harper Row Long-street Thomas Nelson John Blair and Pocket Books in London by Hale and Hamish Hamilton and in Israel by Am-Hassefer At the time of his death Ross was working on three books including one on his experience with IPF He kept his humor and passion for his work throughout his illness and continued to write research and conduct interviews until just before his death Ross is survived by his wife of 42 years Jo Ann Yockey his daughter Beth Yockey Jones and his son-in-law
