Sheldon appeared before the board of education last night and asked that the old Nickle Plate building located at the corner of Second and Buchanan streets be moved to Twelfth and Buchanan streets. While the average freight engine can draw a load of 4,000 tons on the level, the new locomotive win be able to haul a train carrying 8,000 tons of freight. The length of the huge machine is seventy-eight feet; it weighs pounds.

Its ten driving wheels are rach 57 inches in diameter, and they are driven by compound cylinders 19 by 32 by 32 inches. The boiler, which is of the wagon-top type, is 78 inches in diameter at the stack and 81 inches in diameter at the fire box, and the total heating surface, fire box and tubes, is 4,796 square feet. The weight on the driving wheels is 234,580 pounds, and the tank capacity is 85,000 gallons. Sixty-nine other engines of this type are to be built for the Santa Fe, of which twenty-five will eequlpped to burn soft coal and the others will use fuel oil. In the shops where the new machine was built the tracks were slightly displaced by the weight of the monster engine.

Emporia Junction Abandoned. Emporia Junction has been abandoned by the Santa Fe, and the company will no longer keep an agent there. The station was situated at tne junction of the Katy and Santa Fe track east of town and was a transfer place for freight, etc. Jt is supposed that the company abandoned the place because it did not pay. The signal tower will be kept there however, and an operator stationed there for its operation.

The new room is going to be quite a large one, and it is stated that a new five-ton cane will be installed in connection with it. They have built expresly for the expected heavy business of the world's fair. The duty of these engines will be to haul trains made up of twelve passenger cars and weighing about 600 tons, exclusive of passengers and baggage. William H.
