Tottenvllle, June 2 of the recent improvements on the Staten Island Rapid Transit Is the double track between Annadale and Princes Bay, a distance of nearly two miles completed and put in operation last week. The elimination of the grade crossing at Amboy road, Huguenot Park, the incidental readjustment of grades and the additional track bring this stretch of roadbed up to the standard maintained elsewhere the line. The new track Is of rail, well ballasted and like the rsalauce of the line le protected by an absolute electrically operated block signal system. The Interest of the public in this improvement will centre largely in the fact that thero will be no more delays to trains waiting to pass on single tracks. This should gladden the hearts of oommuters from Tottenvllle and other fifth ward statlone and increase the popularity of the Staten Island route in Perth Amboy.

Tottenville, June were given eix graduating with honors at the sixth annual commencement exercises of 8t. Louts Academy of the Sisters of Marianite, of Tottenville, that was held yesterday afternoon at 8:30 o'clock at the academy. Five of the graduates at this time finished at the February term and one at the June, which is the largest number since the school was started. An elaborate program in conuection with the exercises was carried out and medals and premiums distributed. Rev.

J. F. Malloy, rector of the Church of Our Lady Help of Christians, presided and conducted the exercises. Five gold medals, two which were donated by Rev. Father Malloy, one by L.

H. Amy and two by Madame M. Le Dois, teacher of music at the academy, were awarded. Gertrude Griffin was awarded the gold medal for Christian doctrine and Miss Loretta McKeon received a silver medal for second honors for Christian doctrine. Miss Evelyn Small received the gold medal for efficiency, while Miss Marie St.

Nicholas received a gold medal for efficiency in the grammar department. Miss Anna Henry received a gold medal for music in the advanced grades and Miss Eleanor Lynch received a gold medal for music in the intermediate grades. A gold medal tor application was awarded Miss Marie Corson and Miss Anastasia O'Riley was awarded a gold medal for regular attendance. Miss Evelyn Small was awarded a Palmer certificate of business writing. After tho exercises an exhibition of the work of the pupils was shown.

A feature of the exhibition this year was the dresses made by the pupils that will be given to the poor. Many friends and relatives of the pupils from Perth Auiboy, Manhattan and I other parts of the island were ent. The exercises were the best the academy has ever held and the manner in which they were oarrled out reitacts credit on the management and teachers in charge. With the exercises at this time the academy is closed for the summer and will not open again until September 8. The graduates who received diplomas were the Misses Evelyn Small, Gertrude McKeon and Marie Carson, of New York; Dorothy Lake, of Oakwood; Anna Turley, of New Dorp, and Gertrude Griffin, of Tottenville.
